IIRC, they developed an early rep for lunching cranks, which was solved but the stigma never went away. I think they also suffered from guilt by association with the 750 version, so everyone expected top end failure and weak gearboxes.
I think they look fabulous, really well proportioned but always too small for me, rode one for a while and it felt like a moped.
As far as I can tell, they have been completely overlooked by the nostalgia buyers, which mean they have to be absolutely mint to have a chance of being worth anything at all and, even then, you could wait a month of Sundays before finding a buyer.
I don't think it's a bike that's going to make you rich. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

I nearly got one have a look here for some advice.
I was put off after what I was told in that thread, the experiences a friend had on the 400 variant didn't help either but it did get me interested in V4s just had to look for the good ones about and ended up looking at VFRs. ____________________ Current: 02 FZS 1000 & 91 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 Some Bike Pics...

I had one of these (it was my first bike) and had it for about three years. As it was my first bike, I didn't really have much to compare it to, but I would have kept it for longer if the exhausts hadn't rotted to the point at which I could not at the time justify the cost of replacing on a bike that age (1984 model).
That said it was a lovely bike, and it was a brilliant runner up until I parted with it at 55,000 miles. That was seven years ago, and the DVLA site says it is currently on a SORN, so presumably hasn't given up the ghost.
The bike I replaced it with, my 1984 VF500C, uses the same engine as the F, and I have that for seven years now approaching 60,000 miles (of which I've done about 25,000) with no engine trouble yet.
If I saw another F in my area, taxed and MOT'd, for £400, I'd seriously think about getting it it. ____________________ Previous bikes - 1984 Honda VF500 (FII) Interceptor and 1990 Yamaha RXS100
