Two things to watch out for:

1) They coke up really badly. If you are finding it (even more) down on power than usual, give the baffles a clean.

2) If you experience a sudden loss of power after a longish run but it is still running, stop in case it's heat seizing. If it's still doing it after a cool down (ie running but badly), check the points. They sometimes weld themselves together after a long run, you can usually ping them apart with a screwdriver. There is no way the engine should run like that but they do.

I think it has a lot in common with a Tomos.

The header is too hot to coke up. There is a drilled tubular baffle in the exhaust (if it's like others I've seen) that gets easily blocked. You actually get big lumps of carbon like small stones forming in there after a while.

Will keep an eye out for the carbon build up. The pipe is pretty oily at the moment it looks like the premix has been a bit strong. It has only covered about 300 mile so hopefully won't be too coked up. I remember having to remove the baffles and use a blow torch to decoke them from an old RZ250 I had years ago with any luck it won't get to that.

Agh! i had one of those as my very first bike, many years ago. I hated it! top speed was 25 miles an hour.
After a few weeks it blew up because i put the wrong ratio of Petroil in it.
I then went back to cycling 9 miles to work every morning and didn't miss it. Very Happy

Do you have to register it, in order to use it on the public road?

AFAIK anything over 200W has to be. (250W for a trike)

That means it is exempt from quite a few rules.

For example, I believe the legal minimum tread depth for such a machine is "visible tread".

Here, you do not register mopeds = motorized vehicle with pedals that can be used as on a bicycle. You just have to pay the mandatory insurance, which is about 9 pounds a year. You don't even go to MOT. Thumbs Up

Is that in your new line of work? You can't listen to everything they say in that knocking shop. They're not to be trusted. Thumbs Up

It is registered. I can insure it for £50 fully comp - The Wife can get it for £53 third party - she only has moped entitlement and has no experience whatsoever - Both quotes were with zero NCD.
