I ordered a mount of ebay with a with a suction cup on it to mount on the tank, the cup is larger than i thought but i guess that's not a bad thing.

The camera is not the best but its ok, its also got some thing vibrating inside it but i plan on changing it soon but i want one i can charge and record at the same time.

What do you think of the view though,i'm not doing it to be a vloger or anything, just to record while im out on the bike to capture any events that might happen lol.

That sound seems to vary with the engine revs, or is it wind vibrating something?
Too much instrument panel in the shot really.
Can't beat some kind of helmet or chest mount IMO

Nice to have a bike mounting option though.

The sound thing is quite annoying, would sound ok if it was not for that. It does it if you rev it while standing still too so some things vibrating.

I could move the mount further forward as its quite near to me at the minute, that should show less instrument panel in the shot Smile

Over 50% of the view is of nothing unless the sun is behind you.

I also thought you were going to get mashed by that dustbin lorry.

Vibration is an issue with many of these cameras and is responsible for the "Jello" you see in many of the videos. Even GoPro's, as good as they are, require the rubber insert to be secured in the mount to stop shaking (not that noticeable in the video) which causes the clicking noise in the audio (really annoying)

The head and neck are still the best natural shock absorbers making a good fitting helmet still the best place to mount a camera from a results perspective. Back Packs also do a reasonable job such as the VuVantage or Wizmount.

Audio is always an issue with most action cameras. Those in a waterproof case such as GoPro are very muffled. Those that are already waterproofed such as the Drift HD have waterproof material covering the Mic. All lead to poor audio. The only way around it is to fit an external Mic. Drift do a silicon boot to cover the open back door and allow a Mic to be plugged in. Not waterproof but water resistant.

GoPro do a skeleton case which allows a Mic to be plugged in (not "The Frame" as it covers the port). Obviously it is not waterproof. To get around it ideally you need to drill a waterproof case to allow access for the Mic Lead and have a good fitting cable grommet designed for that purpose or use some sort of silicon. I find Black Tac, a heavy duty version of Blue Tac does a good job and is easily removed and reapplied. Not waterproof but very water resistant.

With the Drifts you could get a second back and silicone in the mic lead, or even tape it.
Although it might be OK if it was just 'damp' the supplied set up with close fitting holes is not brilliant.
I've seen a few reports of condensation on the underside of the screen - not camera threatening the odd time but can't be a good thing.

Where are you that you get roads that empty?

I just picked up a contour roam to gopro converter so I can use gopro mounts. They seem much better with less shake. Took it out for a quick test, handlebar mount works well.

Want to find some angles that are much more interesting eg looking down at the rear tyre or front forks. Hopefully because there are more gopro mounting options the converter will help.

I'd say helmet mount would be best option. Chest harness might be worth looking at too.

I've found that no matter where you mount a GoPro, it's always going to be subjected to wind noise that will drown out most other noise.

Only thing I can think to reduce it would be an standalone microphone with a wind muffler on it, and situating it out of the airflow, perhaps behind a screen or fairing. But that would require drilling a hole in the case to get the cable through.

Considering the video quality and high fps you can get from such a small camera, in another 5 or so years they'll be even smaller still and easier to locate out of the wind. And they surely will have created more streamlined designs to reduce the turbulent noise.

This is a video I made to demonstrate the main mounts I use on my bike. As already said, noise is a factor on gopros and I've never eliminated it so usually add music. The suction mount is rock solid, I've never used a backup lanyard and it's held there just fine.

Just as long as there's not much of a temperature change.

If you say fit it down at the campsite/b&b/etc in the sunshine then ride up into the alps, there could well be enough of a temperature change for it to come off.

Happens all the time in light aircraft. The ELR (basically how much colder it gets for how high you climb) is two degrees C per 1000ft, so you could easily have 10-20 degrees temperature change in a short period of time. The suction mounts do not like that and I know several upset people who have lost their GoPros in fields/sea

This is how mine looks at the minute.
I might try it on my helmet but that will have to wait until i get a better camera as mine needs a new battery because unless i leave it plugged in it turns off after about a minute lol

I use a GoPro Hero 3 Silver. Ive tried several differnt mounting positions. Suction cup on tank, top of helmet. looking back in my face (A bit distracting) on an extension arm from my helmet. Etc.
Ive finally settled on a set up.

https://imgur.com/0HA0KG7.jpeg

Its high enough up to not be viewable from while wearing the helmet. While still being low enough for the video to not seem too high up which I think doesnt look nice. Also can throw the mount backwards to get an over the shoulder view as well as reversing it for a look down on my face. So pretty happy with it as it is right now.
