 |
|
Recently took of my centerstand due to rot and got a paddock stand.but I'm confused.in the manual it says to lift the bike on centerstand to adjust the chain.presumably so the swingarm can be at its lowest point.now the paddock lifts up the rear but is holding the swingarm.so can I still do the chain on paddock stand? ..

On the center stand the weight of the bike is not being supported by the swing-arm and so the centre stand dangles.
The paddock stand takes the weight of the bike through the swing arm and suspension set-up the same as if it were stood up on it's own.
My local bike mechanic always adjusts the chain to 'have a little bit of waggle' when someone is sat on it as he claims this is a better adjustment than measuring distance when it's on the centre stand. ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

I think adjustment of chain is better on a paddock than a centre. But even better would be with you actually sat on the bike.
Try it. And see how it waggles in all 3 scenarios. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

if your manual says to check it on the centre stand, this is with the suspension un-compressed, the measurement given for this will be too slack if you set it with the bike on the paddock stand as the rear suspension is still taking some of the weight.
with no centre stand, I'd get a mate of similar build to sit on the bike and check for 'just a little bit of waggle' with mate sat on bike at the tightest point in the chain ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

My manual says to adjust the chain on the side stand, is that why it didn't work ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)
