Ah....King & Queen....shades of 1976....you'd see them on all types of bikes. I've even seen them on bikes with Ace bars ____________________ Space Is Deep

There's something to be said about cruising in the wind on a hot day...you're pillion being able to look above your head to admire the scenery. You can lay back and enjoy the sun......
I'm not quite sure what it is tho ____________________ Space Is Deep |

If you can find one then Corbin seats are a fantastic upgrade. I ended up buying two (damn you, ebay deals). One single seat and a double for touring ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |

I had the rider and pillion seats on my gixer recovered and a gel insert put on the rider seat. Best money spent in a long time! I have a bony arse and it would go numb fairly quickly leaving me to swap cheeks every few miles much to the amusement of anyone following me. Since then my bum is superbly comfortable and I can enjoy my ride more so that was the best Christmas present I ever bought myself! £110 for both seats and gel insert from Viking in Kent. Yup I'm going to have a dab and get a Kwak GT550 or 750 for my next bike (first big bike). Not sure which to go for at the moment both fit under the A2 license.
Will make it into a project bike as well, there is a chance that the place I'm working at less than a mile away will become permanent.
So king and queen seat, ammo box panniers, bikini (round headlamp fairing), headlight upgrade, swing arm upgrade for future engine upgrade. I've been doing my reading and their are a few different engines that can fit in (after my license has upgraded). Plus adding highway pegs and small ape hangers the same as were on my CG. New paint scheme, also might do something to the body work.

Completely OT, but I would actually pay cash money to see that thread, especially the highlighted areas of interest.

I got a gel insert in my 690 one and it raised a bit - the original seat is worse than the CCM and the CCM used the seat from a motocross bike! Seemed to make a reasonable bit of difference.
A sheepskin pad also helps and can be got from about £10.
Best bet is to hit more fun roads and move around on the bike . |

My Pan has a custom gel seat done by these guys:
https://www.motorbike-seats.co.uk/
It was on when I got the bike so no idea how much it cost. It is great on long journeys though, no numb arse. ____________________ stinkwheel: He had an animated .gif of a cat performing fellatio. It's not socially acceptable. It can have real life adverse effects on other people. |

Nobody has to be a hard-ass forever.
There's no shame in being comfortable.
The shame is in being ostentatious, rather than comfortable.
i.e., leather tooling, fringe or 24 carat gold edging on your gel* seat would be ostentatious.
*or overt bragging about the finca from whence one's gel was derived #tongueincheek ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

After looking about on the internet, I've decided to have a go at doing the gel insert myself
First thing was to check out the price/availability of various gel inserts. Most seem to be in the US, where they tend to have thinner inserts, usually yellow or green. In the UK, we're stuck with the medical type gel which looks thicker with rounder edges.
US Ultragel and Luimoto gel pads:-

UK Medical Type Gel Pads:-

This is probably the cheapest seller of good quality pads:-
www.ebay.com/sch/knoplace/m.html?item=380821741328&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item58aabe9f10&vxp=mtr&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
And this:-

The problem with them all.....is the price. The US ones aren't too bad, but most of the sellers are charging way to much to post. The smallest UK one, which looks big enough for my VFR seat, is £40. Not bank-busting....but I still reckon it's out there cheaper somewhere. After searching around, I've found that some wheelchair seat cushions have gel inserts, so I've bought the cheapest I can find to investigate further. The actual fitting looks quite easy and there are plenty of how-to vids around. if you havn't done it before, stapling and fitting the cover can be a bit fiddly, esp if you're using a new cover....but not impossible. I'll be back when the cheapo wheelchair seat with the gel insert arrives....... ____________________ Space Is Deep |
