SRAD 750 or R6 (01/02)?

I'm looking to move up from my ZXR 400 and can't decide which bike is more hardcore (a better pedigree).

Can you help me decide...

I'm after a race rep that's pretty uncompromising and good for Sunday blasts. I was set on the SRAD 750, but have learnt the 2001/2002 R6 had a reputation for being hardcore with it's skitsh handling and aggressive body position. What's putting me off the R6 is its non USD forks and bars above the yoke. Am I being unfair to judge it on this?

01/02 R6: 180kg / 118HP

R6 is a generation on from the SRAD, I'd take the R6 every single time.

Nothing wrong with the right way up forks on the R6 at all. The 600 SRAD came with them. Didn't stop the R6 monstering the Supersport classes.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not afraid of an older bike (current bike is 25 years old) I really want to know which will be more of a hoot. The power to weight seems to suggest the SRAD, on paper at least.

If you can find a good 750 SRAD I'd be more tempted by that 25% extra cc is a big difference and they are quite at home on the track just like the R6 but offer a fair bit more mid range than the R6 ......easier to wheelie too

R6 of that era is prone to:

Bad ignition coils
Weak 2nd gear
Weak cylinder 1 liner

I would never buy another one.

the 750 is quite a leap in performance from a 400 (and for that matter a 600). Why the rush? 600 makes a great road bike. B1H would be my pick also.

fwiw - the Y model gsxr750 is known for chocolate gearbox issues.

Y and K1 bodyshape is same just different paint schemes iirc

Y and K1 is colour changes only, K2 had different mirrors and exhaust.

I'm sad, but not sad enough to know the different colour schemes (yet )

Indeed, the rear fairing is the give away to me They went more "plain" I think from K2. Removed the weird red swipe.

01 R6 or SRAD 750.... hmm, it really depends on the availability of gearboxes as they are not the strongest on either models. Opt for a K1 750 or 02 R6 onwards and now you're talking.
