Hey BCF,

Just wondering if any of you decide to be a little more throttle happy when noticing that there is another bike behind you?

I've done it once or twice, but generally tend to let other people ride how they want, and continue to ride as I was before they appeared.

Feel slightly sorry for the guy earlier who spotted me in his mirrors, and (I assume this happened due to seeing me) started to speed up a little... only to have a bike cop pointing some sort of mobile speedo thingy at him.

The last time I did that it was an unmarked police bike, so no. I'd rather have them pass me and I'll follow them.

Let them past as soon as possible I'd rather have them in front than in my blind spot, where surprisingly most bikes seem to end up.

If it's someone who looks like they're out for a hoon, I'll always pull over to the left and give them the go ahead to pass. I've been caught up by other bikers too many times, who've mistaken my R125 for a bigger bike and wanted to race and seemed surprised/confused as to why I'm going so slow. Laughing

I will try to catch up with a bike if I see one up ahead though, but not to race them, more so I can say hello. (Am I weird for doing this?) Embarassed

Check it ain't the popo first before having a little play, so normally let them pass or pull up beside. I'm too slow on my bike (compared to other good riders) so I usually pick a fast car and goad them into a blast.

^ ^ ^ This, I always let them pass first so I can check it's not the police. Same with cars.

If they've come tearing up behind me, it'll either mean they're a much faster rider than me, or I'm just not in the mood for it that day and have been bimbling. So I'll usually allow them to pass. Then I might follow for a while if I can, but at a bit of a distance so they know I'm not gonna bugger up their lines or anything like that.

Mostly though, if I'm out alone, it's because I choose to be, so I don't get involved in anything, although I could never resist the challenge when I was younger. Nowadays, I get lots of opportunities to ride with others - much better when you've organised something and you know you all want to be riding together. I'm never sure if I go haring off after someone I've never met if they'll be glad of a bit of fun or are thinking, bugger off will ya!

If I'm on a slow bike, I usually try to push it a bit more for the fun of it to see how long I can hold them off.

If I'm on a bigger bike, I preferr to chase. You can see better if they're starting to lose it and back off. I don't want to make anyone crash. Also police.

The exception is if I'm up in the Highlands. You sometimes get straight-line Charlies who come honking past on the straights then hold you up through the corners and spoil your ride. The A82 is bad for them. I try to keep them behind me until I've seen if they can do corners or not (if they can, they'll generally pass anyway).

It bugs me when there is an unknown bike behind me, I tend to spend too much time watching him in the mirrors and less time watching the road ahead.

If on the other hand if I see a bike ahead I usually chase them down but remain a safe distance behind in their mirrors, unless they are riding slow or on a slow bike.

I have done in the past, but since I started actively riding / driving at the exact speed limit of the road I don't. I am keen to keep my pace regardless of others these days.

I usually get overtaken and they speed off into the distance. Laughing

A while ago I had a bike sit RIGHT up my backside for ages, with me waving them past.

Eventually I got annoyed and departed - then got three points from the marked bike he'd radioed.

Marked bike cop eventually admitted that as the unmarked bike had followed me over the double white lines, his observations would have agreed with mine that it was safe in this situation.
Still got the 3 points despite the initial safety lecture I got Rolling Eyes.

Stupidly I had noted that the bike behind was overtaking over cars very slowly, with them pulled right over in to the gutter so he initially WASN'T crossing the double whites - I expect some feeling a bit annoyed with how he was doing it.

I tend to do the opposite, slow down. Then once they pass you know it's not the plod and game on!

Recently all I've seen it adventure bikes, bandits and ped boi's!

I do mess around a little and have a bit of fun if the rider seems up to it but I haven't really had many rides out for pure fun this year. I remember last year, pretty much every ride I would find someone on a larger bike around the twistys and see how long I could keep up with them (on my 125).

This has made me realise how boring I've got! I'm 18 I should be tearing up the country roads! Tomorrow I have the whole day free.. Time for a day of pissing about on the thundertwat i think Thumbs Up

Let them pass, more so if its filtering on the motorway, they always hang right behind you, if I have to jam on the brakes they will no doubt smack the back of me, then when they are past, they usually don't go much faster as they are now more vulnerable to lane changers Rolling Eyes

Much prefer them to take lead and go from there though, as others have said, might be pooolice.

Had a play with a focus on Friday, effortless ever through the corners Thumbs Up

Same as above really, usually let them pass.
It's only if they've passed and seem to be going for it that i'll do the same. But again as above, would rather not race an unmarked bike Confused

If I ever get a bike behind me, I will make sure they pass me before I continue to ride normally (i.e speeding). It's not so much because I think it could be an undercover bike... its more because I have seen enough stupid, reckless moves done by riders behind me so I always want them in front of me. That's why I tend to ride at the back of the pack where essentially, if you keep up with everyone, you get to ride the fastest anyway.

When I have had people behind me that I have known, I do have a tendency to go faster and faster until I screw it up.

Depends on my mood and what bike is behind me. I usually let them pass though and i generally get a thank you even in central London.

I do hate it when they over take and then they decide to filter like a 90 year old.
