Hi,

When I ride I wear a 2 piece suit with all the rest of the amenities to reduce damage (helmet, gauntlets, boots).

I want to buy a torso protector (back and front and neck). I have been looking at full body armour suits. I'm not sure if that's to be worn under a jacket? Presumably to wear it under a jacket the arm protection would need to be taken down. Do you have any recommendation/experience with body armour? Any good shops?

Do you have any links or pictures? I'm not familiar with full body armour, thought they were more for off roading/trials riding/motocrossing etc.

Only come across separate chest protectors and back protectors when it comes to road armour.

As Ben-B said, i think what you have been looking at is designed for off roaders.

Probably a bit of a tight fit under your normal gear but could be used under the likes of Kevlar jeans and jacket I suppose.

Having had an off resulting in serious injuries wearing Kevlar, it could be the answer to the poor impact protection such clothing offers.

It's something that I've considered, but realistically, the extra faffing around means I probably wouldn't wear it.

If you're really serious though, have you looked into airbag jackets or vests?

I wear body armour when I'm off roading.

Basically, if I crash on the way to off road, I'm probably worse off than if I'm wearing my on roading kit.

I wear body armour, suit under an army jacket, shin pads and boots with nylon trousers and light gloves, some protection from tarmac, but probably lose some skin.

it would be too uncomfortable to wear under 2 piece leathers. I do on occasion wear a proper textile jacket over the top in the winter, but still not as good as leather.

Maybe something like this, but neck protection is not a feature:

https://www.forcefieldbodyarmour.com/product/pro-shirt/2407

Pricey, but there are others:

e.g. https://www.getgeared.co.uk/SUPER_SHIELD_CE_Protector_Jacket_3?utm_medium=shopping_feed_uk&utm_source=google

or the same thing cheaper here:

Sure,

For the above, also see suggested videos on the right.

As far as price, yes it isn't cheap but it seems to cost about the same as a jacket so it's not that expensive. I think the second video above shows a good neck protector (or maybe I saw it somewhere else).

I'm also a little bit concerned because my trousers only have shins and knee guards. There's nothing on the buttocks and sides apart from the leather. I've seen models (that were cheaper) with plastic buttocks and tights protectors (and the knee and shin protectors).

Have you looked at the Knox Ageis with the additional chest protector?

I've got something similar to that which I wear for snowboarding, and trust me, it wouldn't fit under any bike clothing I own, and I wouldn't want it to either.

With leathers, you want them to be tight to your body, so that you slide if you come off. It won't fit under tight leathers, and sticking something like that under loose or baggy leathers isn't gonna help you slide, you'll tumble, so something that big is gonna do more harm than good.

A lower profile one might fit, or you could look at cross-sport protection, have a look at the back & chest protectors you can get for snow sports. That combined with the shoulder/elbow stuff already fitted in your jacket would probably be your best bet.

Again snowboard shorts offer pretty decent hip/thigh/buttocks protection to wear under trousers which might suit you

Here's a really good video explaining why I want a back and chest protector. I have a back protector atm but it's the one that came with the bike and it's not ridged.

BTW this guy has really good videos - look at his channel, you'll become a better rider. Just a note, he uses imperial units but he really means the metric units (i.e. when he says pounds he really means kilograms and when he says feet he means metres).

Does your suit not already have shoulder and elbow armour - if so wearing the first forcefield kit you linked isn't going to be a good idea I expect, armour on armour isn't going to equal better protection, probably will make you worse off in an accident.

I don't personally ride with a chest protector most of the time although I do have one. You may be better off just replacing the back protector in your suit if its one of the foamy weak ones and you have a pocket to access - this may be suitable

Otherwise remove the current back protector and use something like this perhaps
