PostPosted: 15:47 - 17 Mar 2014    Post subject: Strangely cheap bike to insure Reply with quote

Was just doing some random quotes on litre bikes to see what sort of bike I will be able to insure in two years time.

I noticed that the bikes have sub category's such as sports bike, sport tourer, cruiser etc.

Most quotes were coming up to about £2000, one for an R6 was £6000! Shocked but I ran a quote for a ktm superduke 990 through compare the market and as it was classed as a 'tourer' it come up as £140.. My thundercat is £540!!!

Anyone else experience similar? Surley someone hasn't done their research properly.. A 1litre KTM naked isn't my idea of a touring bike..

drz's are cheap as feck for me (£115), a lot cheaper than the old man KLE 500 (£220). My old KTM 525 was very cheap as well (£120), the 690 was definitely not at £550.

If I was 21 I would sell both my bikes and get one in a shot! But I'm not sure how much of a risk I'd be taking and how clued up coppers are.. Not like I would do it anyway officer Wink but my 'mate' has a thundercat under the 94bhp law. He hopes he can blag that it's lost power over the years etc though and play thick if he's caught Razz

Got quotes of £220 for an '02 ZZR1200.

My CR125 costs more than double that - and then pushing a grand if I want theft cover too Laughing

I'm the opposite.. £140 for ktm 300 and £500 odd for a ybr 125! Who the fuck does the research to come up with these quotes? Every scrote from all around will be wanting to nick the KTM.. A ybr though? It's not exactly a mental bike either Confused And £100 odd to insure (one of) my dream bike after paying £540 for the cat.. Talk about kicking me when I'm down!

It is because of the category they put it in as well as the thundercat's listed as sports and the KTM is 'unknown'.. But I did notice the SX is listed as motocross and would cost a few £1000's..

My Versys renewal quote was £93. However, the cheapest quote I've just had was £50.13. Mr. Green Thumbs Up Get in!

The car, however, is more expensive to insure than it was when I was 17 and had just past my test. Go figure!!!!! Rolling Eyes

I had a nice surprise too, getting quotes about 800-2000+ for 600 sports bikes. Thought for a giggle I'd get a quote on a K6 750 Gixxer, 2 Years NCD £300 at 21 years of age. Safe to say I know what I'm buying next year!
