Erm has someone bolted a direct gear change lever on (opposite way round of course) instead of the normal linkage type?

Does your gear lever look like the one in this eBay ad?

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-TZR125RR-TZR125-RR-Gear-Lever-Selector-Pedal-Linkage-/310898484315?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item4862fe645b

Or is it one like this bolted on so that the rubber end faces back towards the rider:

That doesn't look as if it's fitted correctly. Have a look at this image:

Spinning the arm on the gear selector spline so it's the other way up will reverse the selection pattern, but I doubt you'd have the clearance from the sprocket case to do this.

This is the most likely case if the OPs original report is correct. I'd initially thought that the linkage mechanism may have been replaced with a reversed short direct lever but as there appears to be a linked lever in place, for the sequence to be reversed then the gear selector link must be reversed. I'll be interested to see how this one works out. Mr. Green

Hi

Is it the original engine? Think the DT125 engine is basically the same but some models have the gear change the other way round.

If you are unsure check the engine number. On a Yamaha of that age I think it should match the frame number. The first 3 digits (probably should be 2RK) are the model code of the bike.

All the best

Keith
