Clutch plate replacement... Now bite point changes when hot.

Hello guys, I recently changed the plates on my clutch. I fitted the metal plates etc correctly (soft edges facing same way etc).

I soaked the plates in oil for 14 hours beforehand.

But when I ride, if I'm in traffic and slipping the clutch, the bite point changes. It's very annoying because I'll find rather than at the end of the clutch lever, it'll start biting at the handlebars.

I've even noticed the bike juddering drag trying to pull me forwards when its really being used.
And if i adjust the bite point to where i want it, if i let the bike cool down it's well over adjusted...

Why is this? It happened with a previous bike too, I used cheap plates then, but I bought EBC this time....

zzr600. 95 e3 model.

Thing is, clutch never did this before (just slipped at high rpm). Which is why i replaced it.

Did you use change / use different springs?

Yeah EBC heavy duties. I re used the metal plates because they seemed fine.

What oil are you using? Did you torque or atleast tighten securely all important bolts?

10-40 semi synth.

All bolts are tight.

Just to make certain, it's only the metal plates that need to go in a certain way isnt it? The friction plates just fit in. I haven't read anything about friction plates needing to go in a certain way, from what i could see they were identical.

very odd. Did you reassemble the plates in the order they were removed?

Did the fingers on the clutch basket have any notches on them?

(before you say, the ZZR600 IS a ZX600, the names are not the same across all markets and as far as I know the engine didn't change at any point.)

clutch basket was fine. Metal plates were fine (refitted the correct way). Only thing I just threw in were the friction plates. But I think they can go in any way.

Still does it, so mayday may get interesting if im constantly slipping the clutch.

It has stopped juddering for now, and it seems to be doing it a bit less. So maybe it's bedding in (done nearly 200 miles).

In Temulthingy's link to a parts diagram, can you see part number 13102.
If that works the same as it does on my Varadero, that will sit in one of the crank case covers and has a couple of small bearings it turns in when you use the clutch lever.

The bearings in mine had seized due to the old salty rain getting in causing my clutch to slip badly as it wasn't returning properly. Replacing those small bearings returned my clutch to normal with no slipping.
