Bike cuts out when put into gear

It's an old 1994 CBR600.

Checked the side stand switch and it seems to be working fine. Side stand warning light goes on and off with the switch, but the engine still cuts out just like the stand is down, regardless of position.

Any suggestions?

How have you checked the switch?
You need disconnect it and join the two wires to test it.
Almost has to be that really.
Not a good idea to ride it bypassed though.

It's a rotary switch on the rear of the stand. I unbolted it and rotating it switches the stand warning light on and off. To me that suggests that the switch functions as it should and there's something else at fault.

If the sidestand switch is working then the problem is most likely with the clutch switch.

Doesn't the clutch switch just lock out the starter motor, if the engine is in gear? After all, when riding you are constantly using the clutch and therefore opening and closing the clutch switch, yet the engine continues to run whether in gear or in neutral.

I guess we need to know if the engine is 'cutting out' or 'stalling' when put into gear (does it jump forwards or not?).
