I started a habit of filtering all the time and I don't even live in London. Today I almost got crushed by a bus filtering (my fault). I don't even know why I'm filtering since I'm not in a hurry. Do you guys filter all the time?

Pretty much when ever it is safe to do so. Although, if i'm in no hurry I sometimes just sit in the traffic and wait for a more appropriate time.

All the time.

You don't have to be in a rush to not sit in the queues when you don't need to.

Always. I try to justify it with the fact my bike is air-cooled. Sitting around in traffic will surely over-heat it. Laughing

I basically live out in the sticks compared to London, still doesn't mean I want to hang around behind cars. Thumbs Up

daily, my commute is round the M60, passing the M61, M62/M602 so tis normally busy,

There are some bits that I don't filter / less likely to filter,

I bear in mind the wisdom spoken in Top Gun "It's better to retire and save your aircraft than to push a bad position"

I'm not going to loose out by sitting behind the van that's driving close to the line and wait for a better opportunity to pass.

I actually filtered past a motorbike the other day (on the outside).
On my push bike.
With my dog running beside me.

Seriously; when you could practically fit a car through the gap, why would you sit in a queue of traffic on the bike?

Generally speaking, there's not a great need for filtering over here but, the opportunity to does arise now and again. Whether I choose to or not, depends on how safe I feel it is, ie: how much of a gap is there, what type of vehicles do I have to pass (how likely are they to not see me and potentially crush me), what is my line of vision like and what junctions are up ahead. Also, can I be arsed to, is another factor.

It depends on my mood, the traffic, what's up ahead, where I'm going etc. But I'd say I generally do like to get ahead, and get away from other vehicle users (if safe). Thumbs Up

Every day pretty much. I commute city to city so there is always queues around rush hour. Half my journey of 14 miles is generally filtering.

I'm starting to get a bit too close to things, I get so tempted to run my hand along the trucks as I filter past.

I'm a bit strange I know! Embarassed

I don't sit in any queues unless I can't get round them. I rarely go past the front vehicle in a queue though.

I am very careful and my exhaust is loud. Lights are always on on the bandit so it's as safe as it can be.

I generally only filter at low speeds and always take extra care when passing vehicles that could turn into a right hand side road.

Mostly common sense and I'm rarely in a rush. Just don't want to sit about.

Generally if a queue of traffic is just going to be a pain to wait in then I'll filter as safety dictates. If it's just to jump three or four cars to the front then often I'm not in that much of a hurry unless I know there's a tactical advantage to being away from the queue first.

Hardly ever but then I hardly ever ride in rush hour traffic. I've done it 3 times since the start of Feb when I bought my bike, and one of those was to get away from a crazy bint driving one of those spaz pope-mobile things who seemed to want to kill me. Laughing

If I can do so safely, I will. Why wouldn't you?
I'm not a fan of doing it in moving traffic as the risk/reward isn't anywhere near as worthwhile, but the benefit of getting to the front of a queue of stopped cars if there's a clear path is just automatic now...

A month ago I'd have said "only where it makes a significant difference", because I was doing an easy suburban commute, and can't we all share and share alike and so on.

One urban office relocation later, and today I did filter like a right twunt Londoner down massive queues, 'reconfigured' a wing mirror on the way, plonked myself in cycle boxes with aplomb, and gave cheery waves to acknowledge the beeping horns which were doubtless applauding my progress.

I don't often get the opportunity, but I will filter whenever it's safe, whether I'm in a hurry or not. Locally the roads are a bit narrow so I often can't squeeze through.

I got a good opportunity the other week, getting to the head of the queue at a set of temporary traffic lights covering roadworks. The road was wide enough that I could safely ride straight down the middle past the stopped traffic and I was surprised at quite how happy it made me feel!

On the rare occasions that I ride into the nearest city I always get a chance to get to the front of the queue at the lights, and even on a 'ped I won't be holding anyone up in city traffic. Love it.
