Thats right folks, Ghostys back with more grief
So I have a homebrew GPS tracker installed in my bike, I rigged up a USB charger to the battery so that I could charge it on the go when the battery on the tracker ran down.
This happened today, so I left it plugged in whilst at work thinking that it shouldn't drain the battery too much over 7 hours.
Turns out I was wrong about that, when I finished work went to start it up and there was no fuel priming sound and wouldn't even begin to turn over.
I tried bump starting it a few times in various gears - what I didn't know at the time, but have read since, is that you are not supposed to work the throttle whilst doing this, which I did. Needless to say I couldn;t get it to bump start, so put in a SOS call to my brother to bring his car over so I could jump it.
Connected up the jump leads, turned ignition and hear the fuel priming sound, tried to start, got half a turn out of it, then nothing. Left jump leads connected for a few mins and tried again.
Thereafter I didn't hear the fuel priming sound whenever switching the bike on, and had no luck starting it whatsoever.
Had to leave the bike at work, I have a charger I can take to work with me tomorrow and charge the battery through the day but given it wouldn't jump off a car battery I;m wondering if there isn't something else afoot here - looking for advice on what to check/other possible sources of error.
Thanks,
Oh another bit of info which might be diagnostic - I notice that when I turn the ignition on, the temp gauge goes straight into the high range - despite bike not having started for 7 hours previous, so is rather strange.

Triumphs bike are very hard on batteries
I see lots in trouble
Charge the battery try again
If it starts check it is charging 14+ volts at 5k revs
If it won't start car type hand held OBD reader will read the fault code and clear it then it may start
Yes seen this lots of times 1050 is worse than 955

Interesting, I don't recall seeing such a block in the bike, good job I bought a few tools with me to strip bike to work today, will go hunting for it at lunchtime.
Fuggin battery was at 9.4v when I brought my multimeter with me this morning Does that mean its toast? If it starts I'll swing by halfords and get a new one to play it safe.

The tracker had died completely - I wanted to see how long the battery actually lasted for since initially I was going to rig it up into the lighting circuit so it would only charge when the bike was running, but that seemed like more of a pain in the arse than I was willing to endure at the time. So this was a trial run - specs say 80-96 hours but it got to a week and a half and was till giving accurate co-ordinates!
So I stuck it into the USB charger, checked at lunch time and it was at 50% so figured everything was going ok, till 5pm came around...

Hmm. It might be a crap charging circuit on the GPS tracker, or there may be a short in the USB charger. It's only an 840mAh battery on the GPS unit, which shouldn't really make that much of a dent in your bike's battery.
That said, I'd have probably left it on charge for an hour, tops, with the bike running. Sod's law, and all that. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

I'm sure it will be fine now the weather is warmer, and looks like you use it regularly. ____________________ stinkwheel: He had an animated .gif of a cat performing fellatio. It's not socially acceptable. It can have real life adverse effects on other people. |
