the cheapest quote on MCE was £280 with £1000 excess or £500 with £400 excess, which would you go for ? The quote was for third party fire and theft . obviously there is a big risk with the 1k in case , I have an accident as I will be paying out a lot but again with the 400, i will be paying 200 extra as insurance so I save £400 if I had an accident in the future.
Overall think should go with MCE but happy to hear your thoughts.
Also I will ride the bike to work after insuring it tonight . would I get pulled over for not having tax even if I am on my way to post office ? |
I can't believe you don't understand what excess is or when you're required to pay it…
With your insurance excess, you wouldn't pay that excess fee if you crashed, you'd only pay that excess fee if YOU claimed off your insurance if your bike got stolen or set on fire.
If you have a crash and your insured third part fire and theft your insurance will fix the third parties car (who ever you crashed into) and not repair your bike, unless it was there fault, then you would claim off their insurance and their insurance would pay for your repairs and you would not pay anything to there insurers or your insurer (although your insurance may rise, even if it's not your fault).
Third Party Only = This type of cover only covers people who you crash into if it's your fault, nothing else. So you crash into someone, it's your fault, THEY claim off YOUR insurance. There's no possibility of you claiming off your own insurance when TPO as you're not covered for theft or fully comp'.
Third Party, Fire and Theft = The same as third party only but this time YOU are able to claim if your bike is stolen or is involved in a fire. Because YOU will be claiming off the insurance, YOU are responsible to pay an excess fee in order to claim.
Full Comprehensive = If you have a crash and it is your fault, YOU can claim off your insurance and have your vehicle repaired/paid out off, even if it's your fault, you can also claim if your vehicle is stolen or goes up in flames.
So.. to conclude if you insurer your bike third party, fire and theft and the excess is higher than the value of your bike, you may as well insure your bike third party unless TPFT is cheaper and just never claim.
To answer your question, I'd go for the £500 MCE cover with £400 excess but if my bike was worth well over £1k and I didn't mind losing £1k off it's value if it was stolen, i'd pick the £280 per year and invest in the best anti-theft products available to me. |

I didn't require anything but the new owners slip to get tax for my bike just over a week ago... she didn't even want to see my insurance or mot slips.
she just kept saying something like "not our problem any more if you don't have insurance or mot" even after shoving the insurance cover letter in her face saying "but i am insured, do you not want to see this?" and her responding with the same thing basically...
confusing...
Funnily enough my tax disc & holder went missing a few days later... cunts must have nicked it lol... that reminds me I need to get a V20 form ____________________ K8 GSXR 1000

MOT is all online now. The certificate you get is really just a receipt, just a printed piece of paper, not one of the old certificates.
So best to tax online if you have insurance. It checks the MID and the MOT database (or used to, things change). You just need the V5 for the reference number iirc. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...
