Removing standard exhuast

As its never been changed before and tips for getting it off without hassle, plenty of WD?

Take it you just mean end can or is it full exhaust, headers as well on the CBR600F ?

Forget the WD40 and use a real penetrating fluid instead - PlusGas for eg. Let the exhaust studs soak in the stuff for as long as possible and, if they look brittle, heat the nuts before undoing.

Plus gas is what you want, it works miles better than WD40.

Plus lots of luck on not rounding bits. 6 sided sockets are preferable.

Plus gas preferable to WD, it's actually meant for the job.

Try applying heat if the bolts don't want to shift.

If they won't loosen, try tightening them slightly - if you get any movement at all, it'll break the corrosion sealing them.

If they're rounding off before you get anywhere with them, you could try hammering a smaller socket over the bolt to get a better grip.

Last resort, cut a slot in the bolt and use an impact driver.

I ended up using all the above on my last exhaust. Have to get 8 nuts off made me appreciate the elegance of a large single...


EDIT: Although if it's just the end can - probably not such a big job. Mine practically fell off once I started on it...!

Start soaking the nuts in penetrating fluid now. Give them a squirt a couple of times a day for a few days before tackling the job. Best case scenario is that they all undo, worst case they all shear off. You may find that some of the studs unwind from the head as you turn the nuts.

I Had a small go yesterday but as i was on my ones, i was giving it a good yank and just left it as i didn't want to potentially risk the bike falling over

If it's just the end can, you shouldn't have any problems. Try spinning the can first to loosen it.

I recently replaced the end can and connector pipe on my CB500 and it was reasonably easy. You need to be careful with the muffler though (small metal collar that acts as a type of gasket between connector pipe and can). Mine was stuck fast and I needed a few squirts of WD40 and a wood chisel to prise it off. The clip between the can and connector pipe really took some loosening up but eventually came free.
