mod 1 tomorrow, a few concerns..

I had my riding accessed about 1 week ago, and the instructor said I should get through on 1 lesson. I had my lesson a few days ago and according to my instructor I should pass easily.

I however hope I manage to do an emergency stop without locking the wheels up. Did good on my lesson but will I do just as well on the test when it really matters? Knowing my luck I'll mess up somewhere despite doing good on my lesson.

Read through this and actually take on board the advice given in that post and you'll be fine with the emergency brake.

The only advice I can give if you're confident with everything else and you've read through the above linked post, is to just take your time and think through what you're going to do next, shoulder checks before pulling off, bike in N with back brake applied when at a stand still etc, there's no rush and no need to rush, take your time, think everything through and don't press your rear f*cking brake in the emergency stop like everyone else does (including me)! I'm a pretty shite rider and managed this in the wet. It's really not hard on a big bike with decent brakes also you have masses of space.

All I will say is take your time before each exercise. Listen to what the examiner is telling you, take a deep breath before you pull off and don't forget observations before you do anything.
As for the emergency stop, just hover over the back brake and progressively squeeze on the front, the harder you brake with the front the lighter the rear becomes and it makes it all do easy to lock. I was as nervous as anything and I managed to pull it off on a damp wintry morning the other month with no minors. Expect the worse but hope for the best and relax.

You know the hundreds of times you've had to stop quickly on your own bike? Do that Its best not to see it as an emergency stop, more a brisk stop. Only way you can fail it is to lockup, so why risk braking so hard that you might?

As I said in the other thread, my emergency stop was pathetic, think I was so amazed to make it through the slow speed exercises I had brain fade, started braking really gently, then banged in the clutch way too early. Only got a minor on the exercise, still not sure what for, so the instructor might have been lenient but the actual stopping distance does seem to be a grey area (that you might as well exploit).

Its a minor for not stopping quick enough and a fail if you lock the back brake unless very briefly.

Cover the back brake, just don't press it.

You get loads of stopping distance.

Just apply a good bit of pressure on the front and play at pressing the back.

I passed it with no rider faults!

Thought I messed up on the emergency stop felt like I locked the wheel up but he continued on with the test. Went back into the office afterwards and told me I had passed with no rider faults.

Just gotta hope now I do just as well on my mod 2.
