It's not a left-hand thread is it?

BBs are famous for seizing. Fine pitch thread tightened to nearly 70Nm in some cases.

I presume you're trying to undo the crank bolt rather than the BB itself though if you're using an allen key? Even some conventional crank bolts need doing up to 50Nm

I had to stand on a six foot piece of scaffolding tube over a breaker bar with the tool bolted in to remove the factory-fitted BB from my bosses bike.

Remember the left side of the BB is reverse threaded. (the crank bolt is not).

Heat is your friend.

I know the feeling. I decided to refurb my really old hard-tail a couple of years ago. After about 12 years of careful and diligent neglect the bottom bracket was stuck solid. Wound up taking a blow torch, about 5ft of scaffolding leverage and 3 burly blokes from the ye olde bike shoppe to get it shifted. Was rusted completely solid - worst the shop had seen with barely enough thread left to fit a new BB Laughing

Shit of it being the bike was nicked about 6 months later. Wish I'd left it looking like a wreck.

Worth knowing that you do get threadless BBs designed for just such an eventuality. The two parts of the BB screw together in the middle rather than the BB screwing into the frame. Downside is you need to hold both ends still to tighten it down fully which might require two BB tools.

Sounds like something that would be well suited to putting modern BB's (and hence crank options) on old raleigh-threaded 3 speeds.

Because thick fuckwits such as myself get paranoid it will come undone (admittedly through ignorance) and so tighten with almost all the strength we have.

I only just learned you can over-tighten an Axle nut to the point of crushing bearings... fail!
