 |
|
Hi all
I'm considering getting a black bike with matt finish or a mixture of matt and gloss.
My current bike has a matt finish on the grab rails and I've noticed that it's starting to flake off. I'm not too concerned on the 125 but wouldn't want to fork out thousands on a bike that's going to look pants in a few months time.
Unfortunately I can't garage my bike (I wish I could) but I do plan to get a cover for it. Will this help?
Is the paintwork likely to flake - does anyone have any experience of this?
If it does flake, is it easy to rectify and how?
Cheers |

I was under the impression that matt finish paintwork was tricky to keep clean, and required special cleaners etc. I think the problem is that you can inadvertently polish the paintwork and lose the matt effect. Maybe that's what's causing your current paintwork to degrade?
https://www.carcaremagazine.com/blog/2012/11/08/caring-for-matte-finish-cars/ Not sure how true this is, but sounds legit |

Its a wanker to keep clean. Ended up running lacquer over mine to give it a shine.
And eventually, i kind of stopped cleaning it.... Ratbike for the win.... ____________________ KAWASAKIIIII |

I've not had a matt bike but I've had a couple of matt black helmets.
The first one was sort of rubbery and was ace, it seemed to repel virtually all damage and cleaned really easily.
The second one was the same make but they changed the paint. It chips and scratches if you look at it the wrong way and gets 'shiny bits' all over it really easily.
Don't think I'd be in a rush to risk a matt paintjob on the bike. You can't t-cut out the scuffs for a start. |

I just don't want to run the risk, G. Edit/ on the loweringside of things. In terms of learning to get comfortable with shifting, I'll considering it when I have a few years/miles biking under my belt - I don't want to be an accident waiting to happen
I believe my inner leg is around 30-31" which is quite long for my overall height. I might buy the boots sooner rather than later!
Sabs, I've always wondered who Bill Payer is?!

I wanted Matt Grey on the ZX6R but ended up going for Satin instead - easier to clean etc.
