I have Honda UK PDF brochures dating back to 2004, but not before. It’s interesting to see how Honda marketed the CG125 over the years. Some key words, if you’re interested:

2004:
• “traditional design”
• “modern flair”
• “OHC [sic] engine is both powerful and user-friendly thanks to its electric starter”
• “sporty flair”
• “classic design”
• “the way things should be”
• “classic lines and traditional styling”
• “tried-and-tested design”

2005:
• “straightforward appeal”
• “ever-popular”
• “smart and friendly”
• “easy to ride and easy to maintain”
• “smooth and dependable air-cooled engine providing a charge of excitement”
• “stylish standard”
• “a sporty touch of class”

2006:
• “the ever-popular street standard”
• “a most reliable and economical partner”
• “strong and reliable performance”
• “smart and friendly”
• “a truly delightful entry-level machine”
• “first-class engineering”
• “classic good looks”
• “a real contemporary classic”

2007:
• “classic riding ease”
• “classic small-displacement roadster”
• “no-nonsense attitude”
• “good, honest riding enjoyment”
• “timeless good looks”

The 2008 brochure dropped the CG125. It was about to be discontinued, replaced by the CBF125.

What I’d really like to see are some of the pre-2004 brochures that cover the CG125. (In 2004 the model received a big update with disc brake, new styling, etc.)

If you have a 2003 or earlier PDF brochure, maybe you’d be kind enough to make it available?

Cheers.

I suppose “winking” indicators on a low-cost motorcycle were a big deal back in the day. That brochure came only 20-odd years after the following appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald on 25 July 1955.

WINKING INDICATORS CRITICISED

British motoring authorities have announced that they will investigate the causes of the widespread criticism of the winking-light type of turn indicators now fitted to many British vehicles.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers, representing all leading British car manufacturers, has already started studying the problem, and will recommend modifications to the indicators as production programmes permit.

The Minister for Transport, Mr. Boyd-Carpenter, has instructed the British Road Research Laboratory to carry out investigations on the winking indicators.

The laboratory will report its findings in October.

Since the “winkers” were made legal in Britain last year they have been the subject of widespread controversy.

The Birmingham Police Force recently banned the use of the winkers on its police cars.

Branches of the United Commercial Travellers’ Association have asked the British Government to ban the winkers on safety grounds.

An article published in the journal of famous Guy’s Hospital claimed that there were too many coloured lights being built into the backs of modern cars, confusing the drivers behind.

Other critics say that the lights are fitted too low down, that they cause confusion when fitted close to a stop light, and that their exposed position makes them vulnerable.

However, some motorists claim that the winkers are safer than the semaphore arm because their flashing is more eye-catching than the arm, they cannot get jammed as sometimes happens to the arm type, and both left and right indicators can be seen from any angle behind the car.

The Superintendent of Traffic of the N.S.W. Police Force, Mr. J. E. Gribble, said last week that the winker-type indicators have been approved as fitments to cars in this State.

However, the winkers were not accepted as a right-hand turn signal, he said.

“Both winking turn indicators and stop lights must be used in conjunction with a recognised hand signal,” Mr. Gribble said.

“The lights are only supplementary to the hand signal.

“The semaphore arm type of indicator is accepted as a right-hand turn signal, and drivers using it need not give a hand signal as well.”

Thanks for the brochure. (Beaches are still used to suggest the freedom of a motorcycle.) I suppose I’m most interested in later brochures, around the turn of the century. Surely Honda was already publishing PDFs by then?

Thanks for your delightful comment too, pits.

Those are great. This one from 2000, for instance. Detailed, with a well-written description of the bike’s strengths, and good photos too. Cheers!
