Right i know the weather is warming up, but how long do you guys leave your bikes to warm up before riding?

basically i'm still working on my Bandit, an wondering if im leaving it long enough to warm up

choke on full, start it (its idling really fast 4k-ish) after 2mins or so knock the choke to half an the revs slow down to 2k-ish if i totally kill the choke it will normally cough an stall

i miss my CG, start it from cold, full choke ride away a mile or so later switch choke off - done

I leave the Ninja for about as long as it takes for me to put my helmet and gloves on - 30 seconds maybe.. same with the 4-stroke crosser. The Cagiva crosser gets about 1 minute to warm up, but it's a stroker and she's a temperamental little shit that needs warming up before she'll idle.

I just start the bike and leave it running for the 2 minutes whilst I put my jacket and helmet on etc. Then just ride slowish for the first few minutes

About 30 seconds in it takes to lock my garage and put my gloves on. Take it easy for the first 3-5 miles

I treat the bike like a car, start it and use it.
Don't thrash it and I can't see any problems.
When the temp is up...Thrash away.

When the engine responds on the throttle movement without tendency to stall, then it's good to go. Not ready for a flat out run, but good for commuting and cruising. Thumbs Up

KTM, kick over and let it pop pop for about 20 secs whilst I pop the lid on and gloves etc.

Knock the choke off and ride it gently for a few miles. When I feel its responding well I might give it some beans on the back wheel and nearly flip it in front of J.M. Shifty

My bike idles at 1500rpm. When I start the bike it usually runs at 2000rpm until warm. So basically wait until it drops to the 1500 and settles there.

A warm day can be 30-90 secs. A cold day can be 4-5 minutes +.

Same here, start and go, my helmet and gloves are on before I even press the button.

This. They don't need warming up.

Start them and ride them sympathetically until they're up to temperature.

As long as it takes to press my left foot down and open my left hand.

Why people leave vehicles to warm up baffles me, unless you're pulling straight out onto a NSL road.

Mine because its shit when cold, I am right next to an NSL and opening a fairly highly strung motor into such areas when cold would result in a lovely repair bill in the hundreds Laughing

Blackbird, fire it up, wheel it slowly down the gravel drive, pop it into 6th and cruise down the NSL. Warm by the end of the 1 mile stretch Wink

Do unto others. Treat the bike like you want to be treated. I don't like to be woken up and ridden mercilessly first thing in the morning.....no, wait, what. Shocked

Need to get out my road when a gap is available, and often when it isn't. Requires some instant go forward. Prefer to have warmed them a little. Probably 100% in my head that it does any good.

I let my bandit idle with the choke at 1.5k revs for about 1-2mins. By the time i've put my helmet and gloves on, i'll take the choke off and it idles on its own. I then take it easy getting out of my area, once out of my area I ride as normal.

Where I live is like a maze and I can't get out of 2nd gear/20mph-ish until I hit a main road, it's about 2mins before I come onto the main road and by the time I hit the main road, I assume my bikes warm and hoon if the weather allows it Cool

Hi

Start up and ride off pretty much immediately. Just take it easy until the engine is properly warm (not just the temp gauge in the normal position)

I don't like to be woken up and left shivering without the covers while I slowly warm up either Wink

All the best

Before work I'm running like clockwork... 7.43am (+/- 1 min) I will be getting on the bike... 7.44am I will be away. Warming the bike up? Ain't got no time for dat.

After work I will be wanting to get home. I'll have put my helmet and gloves on as I walk to the bike, sit on it, start her up, go.

Wasting time and fuel letting the engine run?
UNTHINKABLE!

Mine wasn't built in the 70's, so I can just get on and ride it.

Sometimes I don't even put it in the garage and ride it in rain as well. Its not fallen apart yet.

Dressed, out door, start, get on and ride. If it needs a whack of choke, I may wait a couple of seconds. Sympathetically for a few miles. If there is oil spinning round, then i'm happy.

Until the temperature registers on the dash.
Summer about a minute, winter about 2 minutes.

Start bike, hold bike at 10k rpm then raise to the redline once warm (10 seconds).

Makes it warm up real quick Wink

you see one issue i have is i'm trying to figure out why its running like a bag of spanner (randomly dropping 2 cylinders) so i thought it's maybe because its cold

i cant ride it yet as its not mot'd an kittens would be killed if it touched the road, so its just left idling in my garden with the occasional blip of the loudner

could be many things.. but condensation is a possibility... drench the electrics in wd-40.. and try fresh fuel could have some water contamination ... check the spark plugs.
