Is it something you do before heading out?

Personally, it takes alot for me to get drunk. So to save some money (and not get raped on drinks when I'm out), I have a few before leaving. I remember seeing stories in the news about the problem of pre-drinking, personally I don't see the issue.

Oh, and yeh. I am drinking right now. Funny stories to be posted tomorrow, probably. And they won't be funny.

No because it only takes 8 pints and a few shots in the space of 3 hours for me to be battered anyway Laughing

I have the odd drink because I like the drink, not because I want to get battered, lose my phone, injure myself and wake up in the morning feeling like shit wondering how good the night before was.

I don't get the point of having a drink at home first so it's cheaper to get unconscious when you do go out.

When I go out I tend to pre drink. It saves you money and you can have a good chat with the lads before going out.
I dont see it as a problem at all and when the news wants to give a kick to the 'younger generation' they just bring this up.
I never knew that nobody drank at home before going out 10 years ago Brick Wall

Depends who I'm going out with and what I'm going out for.

If I'm going to a club, then generally the idea will be to get drunk, so drinking in advance makes it cheaper.

If it's the once-a-year get together with old school friends between Christmas and New Year then usually will go round to someones flat in town and meet up there and drink first. Gives everyone a chance to set off "into town" at the same time, no chance of someone getting left behind if we move from bar to bar, and also with only seeing most of them once a year, gives you a better place to chat and catch up with them than a noisy bar or club.

But then there are times where I'll be going out with a few people just to the pub or a bar, and so not really planning to get drunk, and drinks aren't so expensive anyway, so won't need to pre-drink.

At uni, pre drinking was sometimes just you and your housemates getting drunk, or at least halfway there, at home before going into town. Now I'm in my 20s, pre drinking is a socialising event in itself, with more than just housemates, before going somewhere else.

Basically sums it up for me. Usually we all get together and have a bit of banter with a few beers before heading out, as it's likely to be a noisy pub or club.

I don't know why, but I don't really drink. Yes, I do have a pint or two when I go to pub, but I never get drunk. Last time I got drunk it was my mate's wedding and, well, they say I had a laugh. Thumbs Up
I've just gone soft, I guess. No throwing up/down from 7th floor all over neighbour's balconies, no more going drunk to Tesco's at 3:00 morning to do some drunk shopping and so on, no more mister drunk guy. Wink

Its not 'pre-drinking', its fucking drinking. If you wanna have a drink, have one, don't try and dress it up as something cool.

I had to type some stuff at work today. I wasn't 'pre-typing' in anticipation of making this post.

Even as a teenager we saved the drinking for after we'd got to the venue. The point back then was to drink socially in a public setting I guess?

Amazed to find that the local small towns that used to be heaving on a Friday or Saturday night 20 years ago are now dead when I pass through them in the car at 9pm. Maybe they get busier later, but it's a bit spooky TBH. Neutral

If I'm with a group of friends, we'll have a drink or two and then head out to continue the evening. Not "pre-drinking" or what-ever you want to call it - just another stage of the evening.

If I'm going out to meet people then whats the point in turning up already half drunk? Makes you seem like a bit of a tit. If I just want to get blasted (as I do sometimes) then I order a kebab and get cracking on the cider at home, cheaper and less hassle.

Yes. Went out with a friend to a birthday party at a bar, she came over with a bottle of wine for us to drink with dinner before we headed out.

We've also come home from being out (having decided to stop drinking out due to the cost) and had more here.

It's not where you're drinking so much as whether you become an obnoxious/violent pisshead, which will happen regardless, right?

I personally would encourage pre drinking for those who wish it.

I would also completely withdraw any medical treatment in hospital A&Edepartments for anyone over the drink drive limit.

To be fair, it's a good idea and one I wish more people would adopt. Admittedly the knock on effect would be even higher prices at the clubs...

But yeh, starting early allows you to maintain a level at a later point. So certainly before hitting a club, go nuts.

But pre-drinking before you hit a pub seems a bit odd...

Sneaking a small bottle of something strong in with you is usually much wiser, even if it's just to drink in the queue.

The drink driving limit is a very low level of alcohol. Unless you are driving/riding/flying/operating various heavy machinery.

Someone who has had a few drinks, over the driving limit but not a problem cos they're walking home, they're a bit tipsy but in complete control. They're walking across a zebra crossing and get hit by a car who failed to see them, driver was looking at their phone.

You would deny medical treatment to them?

Why??

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think if people want to share their opinion they should be prepared to and able to justify it as well.

I can understand why you might suggest that alcohol-related incidents are a drain on NHS resources... but not all the drunk people in A&E on a friday or saturday night are there because of something self-inflicted.

I have seen (drunk) people in the queue to get in bars and clubs be the victim of unprovoked attacks by other drunk people.

I have seen people get their friend unknowingly drunk on a birthday/stag do, such as depth-charging their pints or secretly buying them doubles.
If that friend then trips on a curb because they're twice as drunk as they think they are, cracks their head open... is that their fault?

There is a club in Sheffield called Corporation... it has the worlds most lethal stairs. I've slipped and decked it down them before a drop of alcohol has passed my lips. I'm sure there are plenty of slightly drunk people who have had to visit A&E for stitches or with sprains as a result of something that is not really their fault.

I'd be more inclined to have a pre-drink spliff, rather than commence the drinking aspect before I left the house.

But then, I don't drink much anyway.

Might have a pre-think spliff just now, though.
Set meself up for a day of random inanity.

Seeing as how its a Friday and everything Cool Thumbs Up

In the long run, hopefully the attrition rate will kill off the more irresponsible and weak willed individuals. Keeping them alive is grossly unfair on those able to control their base urges. It also preserves such behaviour for the next generation, the cycle musyt be broken somehow.

That's your opinion. Justify it. Perhaps I wouldn't patronise readers by implying they are not capable of figuring out my train of thought.

Eliminating irresponsible behaviour in general idea, that includes those who can't moderate intake so they can't avoid danger.

If one makes the conscious decision to go somewhere with a large number of drunk idiots and gets maimed yes.

Drunk people are known to be erratic and frequently violent, so it can't be said to be surprise when one is assaulted when surrounded by other drunks.
