towing my r6 :)

Hi All,

A bit late to post this but tomorrow I am towing my R6 200 miles away from home .

I don't have much experience with towing but last time I did my sv , I did use the passenger foot pegs at rear to mount the straps to .

For the front, I used the chassis.

For my R6 as it is faired, I need to take the fairing off.
Rear will be the same as sv but the front is where I have problems on locating a suitable place.
I am planning to use either handle bars or on the left use the engine mount and the right use the chasis , would this be ok ?

I am taking the fairing off, I guess it will damage it if not .

Also do I have to compress the suspension and then tie the stra?


Any advice on what points to use will be much appreciated.

the ratchet strap has hooks so don't use that and just use the other part of it to wrap it around the handle bar( plastic thing) and tie a knot?

still need to remove the fairing

buy a handlebar strap, theyre like £10, goes over the grips and you ratchet strap to the loops coming off the grips. no need to remove anything.

Yes i was googling and came across it and bought the r&g brand but need something today so i may have to tie it down using the forks , is that ok?

I'm assuming you struggled in school as a child.

You do not need to take fairings off, wrap straps round yokes and fork the front end down, same with the rear end.

Didn't strip the Thundercat to trailer it, unsure why you would need to strip anything off a bike. Stop being a kipper.

For my old R1, i stuck it on the back of a flat bed van and used two or three ratchet straps.

The straps had hooks on which i didnt use. I wrapped the strap around the fork or forks (cant remember if i had one on each side of the front or not) and used the hook to hook on to the strap.

For the rear i used one strap going through the rear pegs.

No need to remove fairings and it didnt budge from Scotland to Essex.

Getting it on and off the 4ft high back was a whole different matter....

on a 5eb R6 you only need 2 straps. on the rear peg hangers, one either side. pull them forward and tie them past the front wheel. assuming there's a stop on the trailer. i towed my track bike literally thousands of miles like this. also got a few funny looks why a track bike has rear pegs....

The thing is with my collapsible trailer is that the front hooks are parallel to the handle bar so if i was using front fork it was going to scrub against the middle section of fairing.

I don't have the handle bar straps otherwise could have used that.
I send a pic next time it is strapped it so you can see if I was to wrap it around fork or handle bar then i would have damaged the fairing

I just took the middle fairing off. It took me 10 minutes for both side and then i had a piece of mind

@fredsredhat , not sure about using rear only . If one snaps which happened to me last week then the bike would have been on the floor

@phildo.. Probably but not when i have a car cant be asked. Actually it would have worked better as there was too much traffic and with bike could have just past all that

wedge bubble wrap under strap and tighten it if you are worried, that or just ride it.

I use old blankets to stop any chafing of paintwork from straps when carting mine about....I also tie the front brake off as an added measure to stop it moving back/forth
