I HATE leaving my bike anywhere which means unless I'm on a ride out or there is proper secure parking I don't use my bike. Whenever I go to the cinema, shopping or whatever I end up using public transport and my mates are like 'wtf you have a BIKE!' Lol

Anyone else the same or am I just weird

Not weird mate. I'm usually fine leaving my bike, but the other day fucked me off. Left my bike at the top of the market in Norwich, just next to the Forum (if anyone knows it). Left it there, packed with bikes, thinking it was safe.

Came back 45 minutes later, and some cunt had tried to take my rear cowl cover off. He broke both straps holding it in place, and the only thing that saved it was the buckle under the seat stopping it from coming clean off.

My bike is an utter P.O.S. but I still do exactly the same as you.

I lock it at least around the wheel/swing arm if I leave it anywhere. Before I left it outside my auntie's house in a decent housing estate with the lock on and a disc lock and she said "You don't need those around here, it's safe" Rolling Eyes Doesn't stop a scrote from the housing estate over the canal which is rough as a badger's arse coming and robbing it does it?

Also being 3rd party only I can't really afford to have it nicked Laughing

Normally if I'm going somewhere without trusted or secure parking I take the car these days, but if it irks you that much, buy a shitter to use for taking into town? *shrugs*

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Yep. For days out and such I don't worry too much, but anything overnight I've got to know it's safe. If I'm in a hotel for work, I'll consider riding down, but only after checking for secure (i.e. indoor, locked overnight) parking nearby.

I just take my chances with the bike unless the risk is really high.
I have a bulky chain that I take with me if it's going to be left at risk for a while and try and lock it to something.
It's the type of bike thats going to appeal to the opportunist joyrider type thief, rather then the pro high end export to to Europe type.

Doubt I'd buy an expensive bike for anything other then a weekend toy for the very fact that I wouldn't want to leave it anywhere. It's a sad state of affairs.

When I visited CaNsA I spent half the time looking out the window to be sure my bike wasn't being pikied, and the other half staring at his pert nipples.

When Teme visits on the monkeh he always brings it in the house.

TBH, with the recent spate of bike thefts round here over the past few weeks I wouldnt advise anyone to leave a bike unsecured.

I park all over the city all through the week and mostly on the worst streets of the worst estates. Theres no point having a bike if you dont use it. Ive never parked out on the streets over night although plenty of bikes round me are parked out overnight. Its often not how rough the area is thats the problem though. I was talking to a guy this morning who had his stripple R nicked form his garage and he lives out in the country, most likely he was followed home by so gypos nicking premium bikes to order.

Ive said it befor and say it again. Get a cheap tracker and hide it on the bike.

Sounds right to be uneasy after having my CG stolen and came out of Asda the other week to find my mirror on the seat. Yeah kinda wary now of parking it up.

I'm very cautious, although it doesn't stop me using it and leaving it places sometimes - unless its somewhere really blatently dodgy and then I would be thinking of a different area Laughing

Ideally always look for an anchoring point though even if it adds a couple of minutes walk, use a small tailpack to hold the almax - then put the bikes alarm on, preferably always in a busy area rather than sidestreets etc too.

No one would steal my bike, reading online I don't think anyone's ever stolen a Suzuki DL 650 V strom ever, I guess to most they're just a boring bike Thinking

Saying that, I still am cautious. I was more concerned about someone stealing my CBR125 though, as you could lift it on your own, my DL650 is 220kg wet, my CBR was 120kg.

I commute to work on my bike, parking it on the street outside the office. At night, it sits on my drive, because I don't have a garage. I chain it up usually, but that's as secure as it gets. Why have a bike if you don't use it?
