Hi all, I'm new here! I'm a uni student and I've never had a motorbike before. i'm 20.

i'm thinking to buy 2009 APRILIA RS 125 cc Full Power, 6900 miles
, any suggestion on the market price? (as low as possible Smile )

Do you want a full bike liscence or just a 125?

If you just want a 125, book a cbt and buy a 125

Otherwise, cbt then theory test then restricted A2 liscence or whatever they call it now days. Then you can ride a bigger bike restricted

I would advise not buying an Rs 125 unless it's been properly maintained at all service intervals, and when you buy it you will need to stick to that or they become very unreliable and break. If you do not want to do or pay for regular maintenance a 4 stroke would be a better option. Because the service intervals are far further apart

As said above with the addition that you cannot ride a full powered RS125 legally on L plates.

The price on an RS125 depends on how close it is to needing an engine rebuild. Unless you've got access to garage facilities or the budget to pay someone else to do it, then I'd leave well alone.

Something like a GSX650F can be restricted to 35kW for an A2 license, and will cane an RS125 while returning better fuel economy and likely cheaper insurance too.

i have looked at Suzuki GSX650F-K8 but £3,299.00 and imo bigger bikes contains more dangerous, Neutral


Believe it or not, bigger bikes are safer to ride. They are more stable on the road, they have more road presence and they are easier spotted by other road users.

Difficult to answer with any final degree of certainty.

Some of the answer is dependent on you yourself. For instance, if a rider is significantly more confident on a small bike then they might well be safer and less accident prone than a much less confident rider on a bigger bike. So - if you personally feel much safer on a smaller bike you may BE safer than on a bigger bike with less confidence (where you are far more rigid, thus compromising the bike's manoeuvrability and responsiveness).

Don't rule things out based on preconceived ideas or irrational fear - if you did that on all decisions you'd not have made the enquiry into biking at all

Put the horse before the cart. Do your CBT, see if you enjoy it. If you do, then do a taught A2 course. You'll then be competent to ride a 35kW 500cc+ bike and will be in a far better position to (not) make this kind of statement.

STOP THINKING - .... no... that will do, just stop thinking.
An Aprillia RS125 full power is of absolutely NO use to you. You cant legally ride anything till you have completed CBT. And you cant ride a full-power RS on CBT, you would have to get your A2 licence. And its not a wonderful learner or newby bike. Its NOT even particularly fast. Its about as quick as a thirty year old Honda CB250 commuter single. Go through the buyers guildes you'll struggle to find many full licence bikes THAT slow.
Meanwhile, 125's have two potentially useful properties; they can be cheap, and they can be reletively easy to ride. RS is neither, sacrificing both to 'speed' that it doesn't really have in any great measure. It uses more fuel than my 750, costs more to insure than my missus 750, and is a damn site less reliable, and requires even more diligent maintenence than any of my old clunkers.
It is just NOT a great first bike.

So go do a CBT and take it from there.

Able to ride a 14bhp 125 on L'Plates; you may want to get some early rider experience on one; they are useful and if you are reasonably sensible, usefully cheap. Certainly a good way to beat bus-fares on a student grant.

If you are strapped for cash; within the 2-years of your CBT validity, can be worth while self booking the A1 licence tests; Theory/Hazard, and Mods 1 & 2 on your own learner-legal 125. All up costs are £121.50, I beleive, as much as a repeat CBT course to perpetually L-Plate. Puts a full 125 'only' licence in your pocket, but also confidence you can pass tests, as well as small bounses you might takle a pillion and or use motorways.

If you want a more inspiring motorcycle; you will have to go for A2 licence. This is likely to demand a fuller training course, as you will almost certainly need a school to provide a bike to take tests on, and legally required supervision to let you ride it on the road before passing tests.

If you want that licence straight away; you better book a course; but training can be expensive, and if you have never had a bike before; you ARE likely to need a fair bit.

In which case, getting your own 125, and spending maybe a year on it, getting some experience can be useful; lets you save up for a course, enjoying 125 'cheapness' if you have picked a sensible one; and when you come to do your course, ought to be pretty familiar and not need so much training. If you have done your A1 on your own 125 in the mean-time; possibly very little, could be almost a formality, to 'upgrade'. Certainly having done A1, you wont need to repeat your Hazard/tyheory test or CBT or be worried certificates might expire before test apointments.

BUT.... starting point is booking a CBT... rest is all totally accademic till then.

So go away, book your 'course' and go learn a thing or two; take it one step at a time.

Are you Dutch? Are you living in Holland?

There seems some good advice in there, and while its translation to English is probably better than I could translate into dutch-ish... I think a fair bit is being lost along the way.

What he's talking about is the 'charecter' of the bike, and how 'new-rider-freindly' they are; something not easily inferred from basic machine specifications.

As said, RS125 does not have a very newby friendly character. Bikes like the ER6 used by riding schools, do... that's why the schools use them!

But either way, 90% of riding a bike is in throttle control; no bike will do it all for you, you have to 'get a feel' and learn to manage it.
