I rode a GPz305 on a 25kW license when the UK model claimed a mighty 26.5kW out of the factory.
The running shootouts with the local 5-0 really helped to keep me sharp. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I did, but it's because at the time I didn't understand the conditions of my licence. |

I am restricted and I am following the laws/rules of my license (A2). It's up to you what you do but if you get caught then your insurance will be invalid and the police will have a field day with you! ____________________ CBT- 2012 Theory- 18/12/13 Mod 1- 07/01/14 Mod 2- 15/01/14

99% of restricted motorcycles you buy here, in Czech republic, are with no restrictors even though they are A2 friendly.
Just what I saw the other day: TL1000R (25kw), ZX636 (25kw), ZX10R (25kw), ZZR1100 (25kw), Hornet 600 (25kw), Z750 (25kw), 748 (25kw) and so on. There are some 35kw bikes but not that many, the law about it is quite recent. None of those bikes are restricted in real life. I just picked the faster bikes with 25kw/35kw, there are a lot more smaller bikes doing way over 25kw/35kw for sale here.
EDIT: All those 125cc A1 bikes have around 20kw. A1= 11kw. I mean two strokes.
+ the 45kph (30mph) bikes mostly almost double the speed limit restriction. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Think of all those kittens that will choke on those unfitted restrictors!!
I'm luckily enough to have a full licence but if I didn't I don't think I would be bothered with fitting restrictors. The reason being, I live in the middle of nowhere where the local police force's understanding of traffic offences stops at checking the tax disc and kicking the tyres. If I lived in some Metropolis where the police carried tasers and every other police car was an interceptor then I would be riding round with a restrictor fitted and some sort of certification to prove it. Down here a major crime is if some poor bastard has their wheelbarrow nicked! |

on the 33bhp restriction at the minute, and i may (or may not ) have rode unrestricted when i shouldn't have. stopped by the police twice, never once asked for proof.
i maybe should have got them but to be honest i felt absolutely fine without them.
i asked this question when i just joined, and there were a fair few who never restricted theirs IIRC. ____________________ Current: Kawasaki ZL600 Eliminator

Might have crashed on restriction...
Might have got away with it...
It is a gamble, people have got in shit, but many haven't. |

I have a restricted 1150 GS
Planning on getting a Thundercat which doesn't really fit under the A2 category which is BS. I might restrict it though as I doubt the fuzz would care/know it is a few bhp over the limit.
Have 600 days left until I have the joy of paying again for my bike licence so I can ride unrestricted. Bunch of tossers. ____________________ Bikes: Previous Bikes: Piaggio x8 125: 2012/2013, YBR 125: 2013/2013 BMW R1150GS 2013/2017, Honda CBR600RR 2017/2017, Honda CB500 2018/2018, Suzuiki Address 110cc 2019/2020, BMW R1200GS 2021-2023

It's an absolute offence and entirely the rider's responsibility to ensure that they are riding in accordance with their license.
Why people even believe that commercial restrictor kits actually do what they claim is beyond me, as in the end, all that they are getting is a piece of paper (and doubtless some psuedo-legal disclaimer of warranty and liability).
However, it could become relevant as mitigation in sentencing.
| mikesaa309 wrote: | Also I'm 70% sure that there's nothing to say it's law to have a certificate to prove the restriction. I could be wrong though. |
I'm 100% sure.
However, if a copper forms a reasonable belief that you're riding otherwise than in accordance, he can seize the vehicle. And if you're riding a bike that makes over your license limit, and can't show any evidence that it's been restricted, then it would seem reasonable to me to believe that it's too powerful.
A bit of paper or better yet some tag on the engine saying "Is 25/35kW for reals blud" is (IMO) very likely to put a stop to that, as it shifts the burden.
Of course, if he's a "used my esoteric training, experience and judgement, your worships" merchant, he can de facto still seize it anyway.
It's all about likelihood and mitigation, there are no absolute guarantees. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
