I finally got insured for the Bandit today!!

At fucking last, after two years and 38,000 miles of 125 torture, I'm finally able to ride a 600.

Went out on it at 7:30 when insurance became valid. Most fun I've had in ages. Can't remeber the last time I rode a bike here, there and everywhere without having to worry about the battery going flat, let alone with some power there.

Coming through a 40 zone and some VW golf caught up (I was being a good boy for awhile). He was sitting right up my ass with a fucking loud racy exhaust. Got over a roundabout and just over it, it becomes NSL. Wacked the throttle open in 4th gear, just left him standing, couldn't help but laugh so hard being able to do that at last was just amazing.

Just to learn to take it easy now :/

Good job on the license though and enjoy, will be great fun compared to the 125. How did the insurance work out compared to the old bike?

Not too bad tbh. Dad was gonna add me as an additional rider to his insurance but couldn't because it's a multi bike policy. So they said they could turn it into two separate policies but would cost 900 odd for dad's CX500 and 400 odd for the Bandit. Why on earth the CX costs more is beyond me seeing as it's not as powerful. Anyway considering atm he's paying 180 for both on the mutli bike policy we thought "fuck that".

In the end I just got my own completely separate policy so the Bandit as two policies on it, which as far as I know is ok?? Anyway that cost me 300 odd for TP only and CBF 125 is only 200 odd so not too bad considering it's a hell off lot more powerful.

Doesn't sound too bad as a new rider. Don't quote me on this but I think you won't get NCB if you're an additional rider/driver on a policy either? In which case its very likely not worth any 'saving' longterm.

Once I got my full license it was a pretty steep drop each year - have you got a year or twos NCB from riding the 125 pre-license. With a few years NCB behind me, my bike insurance near-halved most years after getting a full license/big bike - and that was on my ZX6 so yours will probably be more noticable/much cheaper hopefully.

I'm not sure if "125 torture" is the right frame of mind here... I'm looking forward to graduating to bigger stuff but in the meantime I'm enjoying every minute on my 50cc bike. I want a bigger bike, but riding a 50 isn't torture, it's hilarious.

Once had a Honda Vision 50cc as a loan bike, much fun was had. Although it was scary riding on B roads, cars up my arse Laughing .

Yeah, that's less than fun, but I like to spend every journey with the throttle fully open - try that on an R1 and see how long you survive Very Happy

I found it fun at times but I mean when your going down a bendy road then a long straight presents it self it's frustrating not being able to open it up. Another thing that was annoying is if the car in front is doing 50 and i can do 60 but I can't overtake because the acceleration isn't there especially if I'm going into the wind.

After a year and a half of riding my 100bhp(supposedly) ZZR6 I bought a 33 yr old clapped out CG125, got it running and roadworthy ... now ...

THAT was the most fun I've had on a bike for a long time!

No legal problem with this, but in the event of a claim (either by you or a third party) brace yourself for a right old bun fight as to which policy should be paying out!

I'm sure insurance premiums are really just a random number generator.

A little while back I was interested in a CX500 so got a quote for it...£85 (thats actually less than what it cost to insure my 125 scooter). And no, I'm not 1,000,000 years old with infinite NCB. I'm 21, 1 years NCB and I have made a claim in the past 5 years.

Also, well done on passing your test; hopefully, you can now become a respected member of the forum. Enjoy the new bike also; I remember how great it was riding my 500 for the first time. It's pretty boring now though.

Why?

It gets nicked, dad's (presumed) theft cover kicks in.

Dad stacks it into someone, dad's 3rd party cover indemnifies him.

Mike stacks it into someone, Mike's 3rd party cover indemnifies him.

Some pikey nicks it, stacks it into someone, liability probably gets split, but either way neither dad or Mike are liable for the 3rd party's losses, so what do they care?

Way too much sky-is-falling over this issue.
