That video left me feeling my lulwuts.
All it tells me is: the headlight is a pointy shaped one and the bikes naked.
I presume it's a liquid cooled 4 stroke? Surely it'll just be the R125 engine slapped in a chopped about MT-03 chassis?
I suppose if its cheaper than a duke 125, it might sell. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

meh! It's stylised, marketing exercise. So expect to be raped for insurance over, say a more boring looking, easily to fix, parts no problem, commuter 125.
...but I expect the finance deals to get them sold to be impressive.
Now the real question is....counter-steering or not in that video? ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

That actually looks rather decent, surprisingly beefy (might be the lighting though) and finally a new bike that doesn't have a chrome tumour of an exhaust slapped on it's side. On the other hand I spent most of the video marvelling at how huge everyone's helmeted heads looked. The skinny garb doesn't help things.
I've gotta try and recreate that 'MX armour festooned with black cable ties' look sometime
Yamaha's ads for the new MT bikes have been pretty narm so far, I don't pay them much heed and read the reviews instead. Wonder where it's built. ____________________ Motorsapien Art

QUOTE:
The MT-125 uses the engine and steel Deltabox frame from the R125 sports bike but with a revised steering head angle, upright riding position and styling in the vein of the bigger MT-07 and MT-09.
It means 15hp from the 124.7cc single.
It's got a new tank, seat and footrests, moving the rider 42mm forward, while the seat height has been lowered by 5mm to 820mm.
The steering head angle has been changed to 33.5 degrees for 'high agility', while the R125's low bars have been replaced with a wide tapered one on large aluminium clamps. The bars are 100mm higher and 35mm farther back than the R125's, for a 'low stress riding position'.
It's got 41mm upside-down forks and a rear monoshock with preload adjustment.
Braking is courtesy of a 292mm single floating front disc with radially mounted caliper, and a 230mm rear disc.
It's got new wheels with six thin Y-shaped spokes, running a 130-70-17 rear tyre and 100/80-17 front.
Weight is 126kg dry and 138kg wet.
Yamaha says the LCD instrument panel is inspired 'smart phone aesthetics' with bar-style displays. It includes a shift light, while an 'animated display' greets the rider when the key is turned.
An LED rear light and upswept tail unit help give the machine 'streetfighter looks' according to Yamaha.
It also has a compact number plate holder and redesigned silencer offering 'plenty of cornering clearance' and a 'throaty exhaust note', the firm says.
The MT-125 comes in red, grey or blue and will be available from July 2014 |

Sorry Paddy. But the MT07 looks better than the 9, has nicer design features, and is lighter. I don't give many fucks if it's an IL2 instead of an IL3 or 4 motor, it makes over 75bhp from a useable 700cc motor and it's a pure naked bike with no real concessions to comfort at high speed etc.
They are both great bikes compared to crap like the Z1000 etc, but they need to be better finished as I believe their keen pricing is facilitated by only just about acceptable build quality as is most middleweight new bikes.
The 125MT, does look quite aggressive and shares the MT DNA with the rest of the range, but it needs to be more reliable and better built than the KTM Duke and cost not much over £3000 to be a sales success IMO. I've seen new WR125X's in dealers for over £4200, and I can never get my head around how will anyone pay that for a new 125cc bike? I could have had my KMX and a mint TDR125 for less than £4k, so I'm very confused! |

I'd have one if I had the money, looks like a solid commuter (and I'm only doing my A1 licence). Although it remains to be seen how the build quality is - if it's YBR quality then as long as it's ACF'ed and the like then it'll last forever. If it's CBF quality then... it'll melt before you get it home |

Have you ridden one? I've ridden the 07 and 09. The MT-09 didn't appeal to me. I don't really see why anyone would buy one instead of a Street Triple. The Triumph costs about the same and offers similar power but better suspension and handing. And probably less depreciation.
But I'm sorely tempted to buy an MT-07 as a second bike. Mainly because it's £5199 brand new. But also because 74bhp feels plenty, especially when it's so light (and it feels damn light). Yes, the suspension is basic and bouncy (so is the MT-09) but it still handles well enough. The 180 back wheel definitely helps. No fly by wire, no mandatory ABS, no complex electronics. Back to basics and all the better for it. Time will tell, but it also appears to be well built and finished. It may seem dull on paper, but that wasn't my experience at all.
As a value proposition, the MT-07 is the by far best bike Yamaha make IMO. Practical, affordable but also good looking and an awful lot of fun. |
