I'm not sure what to do in this case, I've got all the details of the driver, very apologetic obviously. The bike had never been dropped before this and have pics of it's great condition. I parked when the area was clear she tried squeezing into the gap after the first car got there. She reversed into it and the side stand got caught under the bumper, something snapped off from the car and wedged it self in the exhaust system. Damage from what I've noticed so far includes

-Scratched up exhaust
-Coolant from reservoir under the seat (the lid popped off)
-Ignition barrel which still working seems a little looser than usual
-Side stand feels a little off but more or less normal now didn't inspect properly yet but still kills the engine if down while in gear (got sandwiched under the cars bumper)
-Damaged U lock key mechanism on the U lock I use for the rear wheel (pricey one kryptonite fahgettaboudit)

I just spend over 4 grand on this thing 2-3 months ago Sad

Hate to play devils advocate here, and I feel for you but I wouldn't of parked there in that situation. Only a matter of time till some silly slut in her hatchback try's to squeeze in there.

Worst case I would of parked lengthways if I HAD to park there.

Should be a simple insurance job if it goes that way.

Ouch, it's a shame the bike wasn't in some kind of hi vis paint scheme.... Rolling Eyes

If it was me I would report it to my insurance and let them process the claim. You may think you've spotted all the damage but you never know if something has twisted.

I suppose it depends on where your from but can't you just park on the pavement/in a corner somewhere out the way (not blocking a path or anything).

I'm always was aware of that, I thought they would pay more attention due to the colour.......but also it was alarmed so should have made a warning sound when her car touched it Sad That being said I miss judged the parking space I assumed it was 2 1/2 lengths usually the perfect amount but someone with a small enough car came along

Get details of woman? Call and ask her insurance details, I'd be doing that through insurance straight away.

They'll cat C or D that due to the exhaust damage Neutral

Surely this is the obvious cause of action. Your bike was fine, she knocked it over. That's what insurance is for.

Yea thankfully she didn't drive off like the driver in my previous scenario(old bike) I will let my insurance know tomorrow, I'm quite paranoid as there's many things which can go wrong and I didn't really see how it dropped.

As for parking on the pavement I wish I could but something gives me a feeling I would get a ticket in the area.

How can it go wrong Laughing

You place your cards on the table.

Empty space, so you parked.
Woman driver reverses in and knocks bike over.
Here are details of woman driver.
I have photos showing my bike knocked over, essentially under the car.

They will need to pursue the woman so I hope you checked all details are legit.

In many local authorities you'll get a parking ticket if you obstruct the bay and if you are parked outside the bay ... Confused ?
Torbay, for example, state that you must park on the inside edge of the bay at the ends of the parking areas. This results in a right farce with an 1100 trying to make sure it's inside the bay, allowing enough room for drivers in the OP's situation, staying inside the marked area and one top box hanging right over the pavement so that I'm not obstructing the road - I'd be well pissed off if I had a pushchair/wheelchair to get past on the narrow pavements or was waving a white cane around and walked into the back of the bike but if that's how the council like it...

Edit: (off topic) even more bizarre was the car parking stance in the middle of Oxford. Car park warden... 'Thou shalt park thy motorcycle on areas with yellow cross hatchings' !! that would be in front of the sub-station access and pedestrian exits from the car park???

OP - insurance should sort all this, it's a pain but at least you weren't SMIDSY'd

Explain again why you hate them so much? Confused Think for the money they're good value, and they're selling well.

If I wanted a basic bike, I'd buy a basic bike.

However, if you come from anything thats remotely decent, ala Hornet, why downgrade.

I'd never advise going to a parallel twin, they really make me want to chop my cock off. I'd rather fuck a tramp than have a parallel twin.

Why settle for less when you can have more, higher tax bracket for no reason yo Neutral

For the money you can get an older CBR600F and an enduro bike, both equally more fun. Why have a slow boring vehicle that depreciates. Its like buying a fucking Kia Picanto.

Simply put, a 2/3 year old Triumph is the best option for someone not wanting a litre bike but wants to upgrade from their 600, however buying new, the MT09 would be top of the list for triple status.

tl;dr arrogant bastard who hates parallel twins Laughing

Mentalboy I hear where you are coming from, I never have to park in bays like this. Work has a private car park and I have a garage at home. I'm not really clued up on all the rules and regulations.

I still agree with pete in that I would have never of parked there.

Ofcourse your absolutely entitled to park like that but it was only going to be a matter of time.

Give them space and they'll take it (and more).

You could not win OP. There is no possible way to park in a bay like that without someone saying "bad parking". You can park in many different ways and each invites the possibility of a problem. Solutions like parking on the pavement and elsewhere present their own problems.

I would have parked bang in the middle, why park at the end? All that you are doing is inviting another road user to try and squeeze in and they did.

Because when you want to park in a town with few nearby car parks and Nazi's for traffic wardens/idiot local authority regulations sometimes you just don't have any other option (without a bit of a walk)!

Edit: I witnessed one of said Nazi's slap a ticket on a bike because he was just outside a m/c bay on the seafront, in an empty space, in fact the whole half mile promenade had about six cars parked on it and the tosser still slapped a ticket on it

this, i hate how when you try and park considerably people take the piss therefore i park slap bang in the middle of empty spots so the chance of "i rekon itll fit" is reduced some what

For example, you can only park a bike in Hackney at the end of a bay, perpendicular to the pavement. But it can be almost any bay, including residential etc.

Generally it's better to park in a m/c bay if you can find one though, or on pavement skylights.
