 |
|
Hey everyone im super new to this motorbike thing, Bought my bike 2 weeks back, Done my cbt the other day, I Just cant get my bike to run..
My bike is a Honda xr125 2005 model, I will give you some information on whats happened, When i bought the bike they started it up for me and it worked, It was running on full choke and my friend rode it and he said it was fine.
I got it home, Started it up and it wouldn't stay running it would just cut out, It wouldnt want to idle and would rev on its on every now and again, If i turned the choke of it wouldnt start at all, I done some reading i decided to clean the carb out the idle jet was blocked so i was hoping i fixed it, Put it all back together and got her started but then she would die again, Some how my brother got it running with the choke of and it was ticking over fine, I was so confused and happy at the same time.
Now yesterday i went to start her up and get used to riding it before i rode it to get it in for an mot, Now she wont even start, It sounded like she was about to start and she would for a few seconds then she would die again, I cant even bumb start it.
I got a new spark plug for it, New air filter is on the way I checked the spark plug today and it was just black, Shouldnt it be like a brown colour?
Its either running to rich or lean (i have no idea though and wouldnt know how to adjust it)
It might have an air leak (Because it would rev on its own every now and again)
Im so tempted to just get it into a garage and let them sort it but i wont be able to afford it
I just wanna ride the thing now.
Many thanks. |

Post in the workshop section next time. It's not news that you bought a lemon. Private sale, or Vince Candelin?
If it was running with the choke full on then I'd guess that it's been set way too lean to counter that.
I'd reset the idle mixture screw. CG125 engine, right? All the way in, then two turns out and start tuning from there.
It's a very simple fuelling system, you will be able to sort it with some fiddling. Just do it methodically, one change at a time. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Sorry man i was just in such a rush to try and get this problem sorted, And yeah its a cg125 engine, Im going to have a fiddle with the idle screw, Is it the screw that has a spring behind it?
Aslo would the air filter affect anything, I have ordered a new one as the old one was pretty dirty, When i took out the air filter there was tiny black cylinder of foam (the size of a fag filter) It wasnt in anything it was just next to the air filter, I wasnt sure what it done or if it was even meant to be there, there was one hole near the air filter that looked like it went in so i put it in, Any clues if that sounds right?
Sorry for so many questions im just so keen to be on the road now. |

I did have similar problems to you with my CG recently, for me it turned out some dipshit had nicked the rubber seal from around the airbox.
It gummed up inside the air filter big time, then the carbs, and the lot was manky as fuck.
Quick clean up of the air filters and the carbs, re-adjusted the idle and mixture screws.
Runs like a new bike now
EDIT: just read in original post it said XR 125, so what I just said could be irrellevant... nevermind
EDIT 2:

That should be the diagram for the 2005 XR125, your "fag end" on there?
I'm just learning this wrench monkey stuff too really, but I can't recommend the Haynes manual enough. ____________________ The above post is most likely nonsensical.

Hmm it does look like it was meant to be there, im pretty sure it was the thing on the diagram next to number 2.
Im going to try and get her running tomorrow (fingers crossed) Then if she runs well enough i can ride her to get in for an Mot and maybe they can tinker with her and then i will be road legal |

Just an update, she went in for her mot the other day and passed (they advised me to get a new front disk as its slightly bent and i shall next pay day) i even got them to have a fiddle with the carb, She is running so sweet, Starts with no choke unless its a little cold she will need half choke and then she ticks over perfectly. I can honestly say riding a motorbike is so much fun, I done 60 miles yesterday and just got so lost and had the biggest smile on my face ever.
