What is the best way?
I read on US forums that a product called 'goof off' is supposed to be good. I tried it on a cold and hot pipe and it did next to nothing.
I'm hesitant to use 0000 grade wire wool as that would be the most abrasive.
So I did read oven cleaner works well, anyone had experience with this? Of so any particular brand?
Thanks

I've used a heat gun before to heat it up then scrape it off once its become viscous, try running the bike and getting it hot enough if you don't have access to a heat gun.

No its on my new bike which came with some louder pipes. The colour is kind of light browny looking quite high up (suggests leg touched it). I know wire wool and elbow grease will get it off but its a bit iffy. They're Vance and Hines pipes and they're pretty mint apart from the burnt shit.

Get it off with something abrasive like fine grit glass paper and keep using a finer grit then autosol/wire wool until it's polished out?

Scalpel, much care, much patience and autosol.

Rush it and minor scratches in chrome make you wish you had not rushed it.

Takes less than a second to make a scratch, feels like eons to polish the scratch out.

I have heard that getting it hot and using oven cleaner is good.

but enough about what you get up to in the bedroom! Wink

as far as the exhaust goes, try cheap poundshop nail polish remover, it's mostly acetone.

Depending on whether it is actually plastic, and also on the type of plastic.. You could try acetone (from a pharmacy (strong solution) , not a supermarket)

I got some melted plastic off a stainless steel link pipe using a stanley knife blade, to scrape the worst off, the rest polished off with Autosol, a plastic scourer and elbow grease.
The whole process took about 40 mins and left no scratches!
