I always liked Le Mans 24 Hours and this weekend is the start of this years race. I reckon Audi will win as usual but Porsche or Toyota could make an upset if they get their shit right.

The Nissan ZEOD looks impressive after watching the scrutinizing weekend just gone, but has had it's troubles after being accused of copying the Deltawing (designed by the same person Ben Bowlby, then hired by Nissan). Some Pics:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/aa/NISSAN_zeod_RC_2013-12-12_18-05.jpg/320px-NISSAN_zeod_RC_2013-12-12_18-05.jpg

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/42/PLM_2011_DeltaWing_4.jpg/320px-PLM_2011_DeltaWing_4.jpg

So who do you think will win? Are you lucky enough to go this year? Does anyone actually stay awake for the whole 24 hours Shocked

Gutted not to be going this year Sad Won't watch it live, will just watch it on catch up.

Where are you staying? Camping on the main campsites? Which one?

I'll give you as much inside info as I can.

As for what to expect - MAYHEM

Never stayed on that one but TBH every single campsite I've stayed on at Le Mans has been 'interesting'. There's always something. However, it is the Sunday night it gets properly crap in terms of wankers and then the Monday morning the pikeys move in, so leaving off on Sunday isn't a bad shout.

You're at the right end for a reasonably quick walk into Arnage. I'd recommend that on a Friday night - lots of little bars / restaurants doing steak frite and beer, lots of outside seating, and the supercars tend to show up there on Friday night for rolling burn outs and general madness. Oh and you get the joke cars round too, which is always a laugh.

Friday is affectionately known as 'Mad Friday' and there'll be a lot of dressed up (for example one year a bunch of Wrestlers turned up in Spandex) and very pissed up folk doing the rounds for party. There's also burn-out alley which will be any of the roads around the edges of the camp sites. Best one is usually around the karting track outside what was Karting Nord but it's all changed now Karting Nord has been closed.

Traffic actually isn't too bad - especially if you're going back to pack tent up etc after the race and let the locals go. The town route gets a bit blocked but from your end, I'd recommend going down a bit rather than through town - once you're on a main route you can make ground quickly.

Pit village is good for a look around - plenty of exhibition stuff to see, lots of merchandise sellers and a view back over the pits. Guinness tent a bit further up which is party-like in the late evenings.

Best accessible corner for me is Tet Rouge - it's a hell of a walk from where you are though, so budget an hour for that one. You can't get out onto the Mulsanne etc officially but there is a Guerilla route through the hedges. If you wish to attempt it you shall be rewarded with 200mph+ cars going past you in very close proximity. Wear black, and gloves, and strong boots, and strong trousers for brambles!

Start / finish line grandstand - you can get into the bottom portion of the opposite side of the pits and watch the start. You'll have to get there in good time though as it fills up fast and then you can't see for toffee. HOWEVER, good little trick I learned is if you're not too fussed about budget you can book a table at the pit village restaurant and then sit on the terrace overlooking the start. Even doing that cheap though, it's £60 a head really - so be prepared for that.

Enjoy Thumbs Up

Definitely. It's a tough one to pack for as it can be just as bad as England for unpredictability. LOTS of walking involved; the track is huge Laughing

Very jealous, Le Mans is a brilliant weekend.

We usually try and sleep as much as possible before the race and stay awake for the full 24 hours - it starts getting exciting when people start getting too drunk/ tired to pay attention. Thumbs Up

Comfortable shoes, a decent comfortable bag you can carry something to sit on (even if it's just a plastic sheet), bottle of water and some food in are essentials.

Pack a small portable radio so you can tune into Radio Le Mans wherever you are - that way you won't miss anything.

Wet wipes (and lots of them) and ear plugs are useful.

Once the race is over, you'll be shattered and want to get some sleep. This is when the locals are let into the campsites and things start to go missing. Anything valuable, lock in your car before you get to sleep, and be aware you might get disturbed by thieves planning a rummage in your tent. The first year we went, the guys we were camped next to packed everything except their chairs away... the chairs were gone when we woke up.

Big crash has taken out the lead of GT Am, Audi #3 and Toyota #8 has been in the pits for a while getting repaired. Drama already.

As do I, the female commentator on the Le Mans stream from their website was clueless as fuck and irritating me. Middle Finger

This is my first Le Mans, enjoying it so far. Thumbs Up Fancied giving it a go as I'm a Webber fan and haven't been disappointed.

I paid the £2.99 to watch on EuroSport - it has been well worth it so far.

What a brilliant race - three and a half hours in and it's been absolutely packed with action.

If I remember correctly, the Deltawing failed to finish in 2012 and didn't compete last year either...

(Could be wrong. Was there in 2012 and don't recall it at all from last year's coverage).

Got taken out in 2012. I'm sure I read that a couple were back for this year.
