Best thing to aim for is reducing the impact, trying to stop it will cause injuries and possible more damage.
Dropping a bike in a road after forgetting to take the disc lock off is not advisable. ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? It's a real shitter. Especially if you're a weak little wimp like me!
I've done the same thing recently....3 times! In 3 weeks! Luckily I have crash bungs so no damage to the bike.
The first time I just jumped off and the stand didn't work properly* and the bike fell onto my knees. Queue 2 lovely bruises! I did manage to lay it down gentlt though.
Then the next day I pushed the bike forward a touch in the garage and stand came up and the bike went down!
Then on Monday I tried to make a very tight u turn and just lost my balance . It went down again! Someone saw this time, but stopped and help me pick it up.
I started to doubt my ability to hold the fucking thing up! But that passed.
*or I didn't put it down properly..(more likely) |

Super glue is doing the trick to be honest. The fairing broke in three pieces. I've glued the small bit on the biggest bit that broke off, too. Now I'm going to glue that one big bit on the bike when the glue has dried ____________________ My Bikes: Lifan Beat 125cc '11 -> Suzuki B120P '76 -> Suzuki EN 125-2A '08 -> Honda CG 125 '04 -> Honda CB600F Hornet '98 -> Kawasaki ZZR 600 '99 -> Kawasaki GPZ 500S '95 (Current)

Haven't dropped one recently, but many moons ago I came home from work, got off the bike, holding the clutchside grip while reaching with my free hand to open a gate, done it a thousand times before.
The handle bar grip, one of those foam things, decided to part company from the handle bar.
Fortunately it fell into a larchlap fence so not much damage to the bike! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Don't worry, I dropped/fell off my bike in front of a park full of school kids who promptly ran over en-masse and asked if I was ok/laughed their heads off.
They learnt some new words that day I'm sure.

Luckily, there was a big bile of black bin bags with paper in them next to it, which is what it fell on. No damage or scratches luckily.
Struggled a little lifting the fucker back up, they're heavy bastards. |
You wanna try lifting a Fazer 1000 on a steep slope - still don't know how I managed that.
Yeah, you can injure yourself if you try holding it up, but I found I got to that point where it justed started to strain a little too much and then made the decision, no, it's going down, and just let it go. Fortunately it was on to a soft grass verge, so no damage done.
And it's kind of like when you crash - when I threw my FZ750 down the road, I was up in a flash, no thoughts of whether I was injured, just, shit, how's the bike?! Daft, but there you go |
