Best thing to aim for is reducing the impact, trying to stop it will cause injuries and possible more damage.

Dropping a bike in a road after forgetting to take the disc lock off is not advisable. Embarassed

It's a real shitter. Especially if you're a weak little wimp like me!

I've done the same thing recently....3 times! In 3 weeks! Luckily I have crash bungs so no damage to the bike.

The first time I just jumped off and the stand didn't work properly* and the bike fell onto my knees. Queue 2 lovely bruises! I did manage to lay it down gentlt though.
Then the next day I pushed the bike forward a touch in the garage and stand came up and the bike went down!
Then on Monday I tried to make a very tight u turn and just lost my balance . It went down again! Someone saw this time, but stopped and help me pick it up. Karma
I started to doubt my ability to hold the fucking thing up! But that passed.

*or I didn't put it down properly..(more likely)

The second and last time I dropped my bike I was doing an emergency stop downhill to prevent running into the path of a speeding 7.5T truck. I got most of the speed off then dropped it on my left leg heading to work. If I hadn't dropped it I would have gone a few feet further forward and would probably be dead, so I was happy to accept a few bruises and a little scratching on the windshield.

I dropped the R1 last week whilst looking after my sisters house when she was on holiday. No lights outside + garage + side stand slightly not all the way out.

Luckily, there was a big bile of black bin bags with paper in them next to it, which is what it fell on. No damage or scratches luckily.

Struggled a little lifting the fucker back up, they're heavy bastards.

Even worse than that, at a bike meet causing a domino effect of tumbling bikes and chrome and plastic.

Super glue is doing the trick to be honest. The fairing broke in three pieces. I've glued the small bit on the biggest bit that broke off, too. Now I'm going to glue that one big bit on the bike when the glue has dried Laughing

Haven't dropped one recently, but many moons ago I came home from work, got off the bike, holding the clutchside grip while reaching with my free hand to open a gate, done it a thousand times before.
The handle bar grip, one of those foam things, decided to part company from the handle bar. Rolling Eyes
Fortunately it fell into a larchlap fence so not much damage to the bike!

Don't worry, I dropped/fell off my bike in front of a park full of school kids who promptly ran over en-masse and asked if I was ok/laughed their heads off.

They learnt some new words that day I'm sure.

Seen this happen a few times at squires on a saturday afternoon or wednesday evening, when the flat part of the car park's full, and bikes start filling up the sloped part. Total disaster area.

You wanna try lifting a Fazer 1000 on a steep slope - still don't know how I managed that.

Yeah, you can injure yourself if you try holding it up, but I found I got to that point where it justed started to strain a little too much and then made the decision, no, it's going down, and just let it go. Fortunately it was on to a soft grass verge, so no damage done.

And it's kind of like when you crash - when I threw my FZ750 down the road, I was up in a flash, no thoughts of whether I was injured, just, shit, how's the bike?! Daft, but there you go Rolling Eyes

I only go when its quiet(ish). I live in fear that I will one day be the numpty to cause such a scene and will have to throw myself from a bridge as punishment.

Best thing to do at squires is circle the main space, and if it's full, head back all the way towards the exit, then turn hard left and go up onto the camping field part. It's flat there, and out of the way. Ime, nobody tells you to move.
