 |
|
So I stopped at the shop today.
Went to my mate's just up the road while our lass was in the shop.
I get a phone call "your bike is on its side!"
So I come back, pick the bike up. I'm friends with the local shopkeeper so he lets me take a recording. At this point I haven't seen the video, assumed it has fallen over on its own. Get back and find out some woman has reversed into it and driven off!
Luckily I got the plate and contacted the police. They managed to contact her and we spoke. She asked me to get a quote for repairs. Damage to the bike: front left fairing and rear left fairing, crash bung, engine casing (that I can see).
Now, gouges to the fairings - what do I do with these? Not like I want to do the work myself - why should I? Is there more damage? The engine casing took a bashing.

Claim it on her insurance, and have a chat with the po-po about her failing to stop or provide details |

She doesn't stop after knocking your bike over, I wouldn't trust her to pay you for the damage!
You need her insurance details and you need to remind the police that she should have stopped at the scene and given you those details then so she's guilty of failing to stop after an accident. Is reversing into a stationary object driving without due care?
If it goes through insurance then you'd get everything replaced with new parts. As to if there's any other damage, if you get it checked over by a main dealer then I'd expect them to come up with a list of other parts that need replacing. Those parts may or may not actually need replacing but that's not really for you to worry about.
If she really wants to foot the bill for new fairings herself then wtf. |

Shhhhhhhh.
Read again.
The police are already involved.
She has to report it "at a police station or to a constable, and [...] as soon as is reasonably practicable and, in any case, within twenty-four hours of the occurrence of the accident."
24 hours hadn't elapsed, so the CPS won't touch it, so Dibble won't care.
Getting a quote yourself is literally a waste of time. There's no realistic way she's going to pay that much out of her own purse.
It's going to go through her insurer, and it might as well go there sooner rather than later.
I would invite her to contact her insurer, and if you haven't heard anything from them by mid morning tomorrow, punt it to yours and let them sort you out. That'll cost her insurer more, which is sad for them, but you shouldn't be out by one penny on this, or inconvenienced in any way. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

A simple thing happened to me a while ago. My bike and was parked up outside my house for about ten minutes and when I came back out one of my neighbours called me over. Some woman had reversed into my bike knocking it over. Her male passenger got out, picked it up and they drove off.
Thankfully, my neighbour photographed it all and contacted the po po, who came out, took a statement and tracked her down. I was just in the process of claiming off her insurance when my bike was written off by a SMIDSY, so I didn't bother following up the first claim after all.
I'd suggest you do the same but, maybe leave out the SMIDSY part. If it wasn't for that camera, you'd be out of pocket by a substantial amount and she wouldn't give a damn about it, which is obvious by her actions when she thought she'd gotten away with it by just driving off without a care in the world.
You should claim for every bit of damage, right down to the smallest scratch and I'd be pushing for her to be prosecuted too, if she doesn't report it within 24 hours as she is legally obliged to. |

So she walked past your bike then still reversed into it? Show no mercy, she decided to f**k off, get it fixed at a dealer using brand new parts. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)
