High-profile motorbike racer, no life insurance? |
I would suspect when you apply for life insurance as a professional motorcycle racer and also tick the box entitled "Race in the fastest and most dangerous road race in the world."*, just possibly they may decline to insure you, or at least offer you rather unfavourable terms!
* I believe it is, may not be.
My dad was killed in a RTA while riding a push bike when I was 11. My parents had divorced and I had chosen to live with my dad. Did kinda suck to be me as far as life generally goes for some time after. I DID get left some money and so on, but that really didn't "make up" for the situation.
You'd hope he'd have some put away, but, as it goes, presuming they are British Citizens, they actually have a really excellent welfare system that means they won't be denied any opportunities the average person gets.
Sure, they'll have to pay the money back after if they want to go to Uni, but considering the general standards of Uni levers, personally I think it's a good idea to make people think twice about it.
Just had a look at his results - some time since he was winning championships, probably didn't have a massive amount of money from the racing. Kids will be at School now, so time for mum to get a job.

Doesn't sit right with me personally. I feel very similarly about the pleas for cash for Kevin Ash's kids. No one forced him to take those risks, yes it's a pity he's dead, however I fail to see why he wouldn't have proper plans in place should something have happened. I also fail to see why race fans should then pick up the bill. ____________________ My Flickr |
