Been doing quotes for insurance on the bike and gocompare came out saying rac cheapest at £215 for the yr with £250 comp excess, but i go on their website and its £294??!?!?!? bizarre, looks like gocompare are getting my custom for rac.

Are you sure you're de-selecting all the optional extras they sometimes put on as default like legal cover etc.

Try thebikeinsurer.co.uk / wickedquotes.com as well as gocompare and the other generic comparison sites.

Sometimes worth a haggle on the phone - although probably not if you're premiums are already around that sort of price considering most of the phone lines drain the bank by the minute.

Meh, you will find sooner or later that most insurance quotes are just random number generators. There is little to no logic behind most of it.

fisty - i was just pointing my frustration on different prices even tho its the same company.

I am surprised RAC were the cheapest though, but £215 isnt too bad beens i have never had a bike before.

The problem is when you're using the comparison sites its basing it on an initial basic quote based on the information the comparison site asks. Some insurers will ask for additional information in the final stages of the quote which the comparison site might not, so it can suddenly shoot up a bit.

Its still definately worth using comparison sites, at least to get an idea of other prices, but be cautious before rushing into payment as the end-price can often shoot up a bit as you've seen.

Your best friend for insurance prices is years-riding/NCB from what i've found personally - mines near halved the last few years year on year - although thats after near 7 years riding. The first few were crippling on anything except a scooter, and even then it was expensive.

RAC know if you have taken a direct quote with them chances are you're going to go with them as most people don't do individual quotes on each company.


However they know that when people do quotes on a comparison site it's a lot more competitive between each insurance company and therefore lower their prices in an attempt to be cheaper than someone else.

That's my guess anyway, more than likely just a number generator, also INB4 my renewal quote was 11venty times bigger than their comparison quote

I got my first bike an 09 Honda Varadero 125 back at the start of June and insured it with Swinton, I have no no-claims bonus, only passed CBT, no continual bike riding experience and an excess of £150 and fully comp for the year was £114, now you can't grumble at that they do promise at the moment to beat any bike insurance quote so give them a try.

I'm just about to renew mine too... quotes are all over the place. Unfortunately my test pass date doesn't quite match my renewal date - most of them don't ask how many months you've been riding, just the years.

All are FC:

Carol Nash want 300 quid

RAC want 145 quid

Bennetts want 90 quid


Do Carol Nash do any sort of price matching?
