Might get away with it - I was filtering and, apparently, the photo must have only one vehicle in it.

Literally hundreds, possibly thousands of times going past that camera. feel like a right idiot.

How fast were you filtering if you got flashed doing over the speed limit?

Would a defence be you were being undertaken by the other vehicle that may or may not be in the picture?

I think we've all done that though (not actually been flashed), gone past a camera we've been past 100's of times but on an odd occasion, just been on auto pilot and almost sailed through it like it wasn't there.

I've not heard the rule about the picture only having one vehicle in it... in fact I think I've seen pictures on Pepipoo where that is not the case. Any source?

I nearly got done in the same way last week.

Decided to filter on the 40mph part of the A127. Only got reminded of the speed camera when I saw the painted calibration lines on the road literally right in front of me. Cue a hard braking and the front squirming as the front tyre was bang on the lane divider markings. Ugly. Mad

I did this once and got away with it - I swore I'd be more careful.
A month later I did the exact same thing at the exact same camera. I got away with it again.

I swear I'll be more careful now though...

Presumably that is why they have the calibration lines, so they can put their sheet over it and tell by the time between the two photographs, how fast you were going. :/

Robster - if it was the camera at the eastern end of the tunnel, then it's dead. I got flashed by that one a while back, with no comeback.

I hate cameras so much for this reason. I am only paying attention when I'm *speeding* not when I'm doing 35 and half-asleep going through the cameras in autopilot.

Somebody set one on fire near me the other month. I wish more people would do this.

True, when you're squeezing between two vehicles in excess of the speed limit, the last thing you want to be doing is looking at your instruments.

Kittens.

The only speed camera on my regular commute is in the bottom of a dip. It's perfectly positioned in an open area with no junctions or crossings to rake in revenue from people who have carried a little too much speed down the hill. Everyone then accelerates sharply away up the other slope towards a blind crest with a junction and bend hidden behind it.

Kittens.

Enough people complained about the Traffic Light/Speed Camera on Holes Bay road in Dorset that the council actually got rid of it, took a lot of noise for that to happen though.

It would net so many people who were visiting the area for the first time. I think the council just turned it into a red light flasher

Quite a few in London have three sets of calibration lines though. Normal sets in both lanes, then a mini set down the middle to catch bikers filtering. Limehouse Link is a good example.

Now, whether they can indeed tell your speed independently from vehicles either side of you or whether they just slapped some extra paint on the road as a visual deterrent is another matter.

Except in Leeds (on the A64 out towards Seacroft) they're changed the speed camer from rear to Truvelo front facing. The lines for the old rear facing are still on the road. So if you don't see the camera by time you see the lines if you're over 40mph (ish) you're done.

TL;DR no calibration lines for front facing camera.

Got flashed earlier this year on a route ive used for 20 odd years. No ticket came.

Stupid moment. Not long of the M25/M40 and had been tail gated all the way up long lane by some cock in a very loud Audi. I was really focussed on him and how close he was. My mind wandered to looking at him and for a big enough gap in parked cars for me to nip into and let him past when he slammed on the anchors tyres screeching.

Took my brain a moment to realise why, prompted by a flash. Doh!

Frustratingly 5 or 6 years ago when I first got into bikes I had an incident just 60 seconds up the road under the same conditions. Big loud car tailgating me, I was so focussed on him I was suddenly aware of brake lights ahead and panicked. Arms and legs went all over the shop. Almost ended up in someone's garden.

I needs to be less focussed on what's behind and more focussed on what's in front.

Bit off topic but I think the lime-house tunnel cameras have got to be the highest revenue cameras in the UK?

Would love to know Laughing

A good few years ago there was one at the bottom of the hill on the M5 from the Almondsbury interchange to portishead near Bristol. If you were doing 70 at the top of that hill you wouild have to keep your brakes on to still be doing 70 at the bottom.

I recon that one must have been one of the highest earners when it was active.

They need to calculate your precise speed using the horizontal white lines in the road linked to the camera photo.

IF you were filtering and IF the car you were overtaking was covering the white lines when both photos were taken, you SHOULD be OK, but don't have a go at me IF my logic is wrong

I was under the impression that the Gatso cameras are configured to only catch you whilst between the painted lines area.

We have Truvelos here too with no painted lines but they're less common.

A while back doesn't mean that's the case now unfortunately.

If it's a film camera, it could have been out of film, or for any, I believe they can be set to flash without film to scare people.

The last stats I read said that there's a 20% chance for there to be useable film in a fixed gatso but much higher for roadworks ones. In fact I have never known anyone to get flashed in roadworks and NOT get a NIP.
