Just been on the news.

Pothole fund of £168m allocated to councils in England

I wonder if the increase in claims for vehicle damage will be included in that pothole fund.

Nasty stuff. Bright side, at least it might catch a few of the more reckless lycra louts out as well and they'll bawww about it too.

I experienced some for the first time on two wheels last night, between Matlock and chatsworth!

Nearly decked it, it's worse than snow!

In Sheffield we have had lots of roads planed and re surface, they are excellent now and some of the 'nice' roads are literally a race track now!

If repairs are allowed to be done properly then they do last.
They often choose not to.
I suspect that filling a hole requires a level of *experience.
You'd cut the rough hole into a shape so the new tarmac is held in place(not done)
You'd fill with hot tarmac(not often done)
You'd overfill it slightly so it compresses to the correct height(*)
You wacker or roll it.

Piles of chippings are in our local laybys and I know most of it will not be applied or cleared up properly...Ranty ...rant...fume...fixmystreet.com...waste of bleedin time...still ranty ranting.

Tossers.

Whole exercise is a waste of time, our council filled a load of pot-holes on a lightly used side road near me last summer, less than a year later it's all falling to bits again.

I think they have tried that on a road I occasionally use. I say think because they don't really seem to have filled anything. Bit of tar and grit (tiny pieces). And as much spread on the grass verge as the road.

All the best

Keith

They actually did a decent job of filling them, they cut away the crap and did a neat job, the point is it doesn't matter how well you repair a pot-hole, if the road surface is just plain knackered from age it falls apart again.

I am very puzzled by our council's approach to road repairs. They recently filled a number of potholes nearby - painted green lines around them first, so I thought, ay oop, they're gonna fix em. But they left other holes, just as deep and severe, and right next to the indicated ones, which then weren't repaired. WTF? And anyway, that whole stretch is falling to pieces, so pointless doing anything other than a complete resurfacing job.

And there is another bit on my way to work that I won't ride the bike down now, it's that bad. The holes and knackered surface even try to snatch the wheel out of my hands in the car, and that's at low speed.

I've already seen a lot more use of the chippings method this year than I can ever recall seeing before - think they're doing another near me now Sad

Here in Manchester they've been very busy with the Tarmac machines. Not repairing the disasterous state of the roads, but building inumerable speed humps on all the side roads. Now, those speed humps just DO NOT disintigrate, whilst the road surface around them crumbles away..... WTF?

They've put loads of those little square speed humps in around my manor, so now the scrotes veer left, half-mount the pavement and swerve around them. Plus I'm dreading the next bad winter when the bloody things are hidden from view by a few inches of snow.
