 |
|
Hey All,
A friend of mine is selling a minty Ducati 1000FF that's been standing for 5+ years. It's done less than 10k on the clocks but said that he thinks it might need a good service and possibly valves and belts checking.
A local Ducati dealership quoted £800-900 for a full service - does this seem about right? I've never had a Duke and know they can be expensive but this seems a bit silly...
Happy to do the work myself if it's not too involved but time is an issue for me.
Any other tips on what to look out for on these would be great, or any advice generally.
Thanks in advance guys ____________________ Squiffy_The_Wombat

Hey Marjay,
Yes, lol I do mean SS! Thanks for the input, shall checkout the mag this afternoon, great shout
When you say it's not worth more than £900....Do you think that's the sort of going rate for an 04 plate? Seems rather cheap to me when I've seen aging 600SS' go for £1400?
Thanks for your help dude ____________________ Squiffy_The_Wombat

Will defiantly need belts but there not that expensive
Also a battery fuel draining possible carbs cleaning or A flush with injector cleaner
Any bike that has stood fro years will need a good service and bits fixing
Ducati dealers charge like wounded Rhinos !!
Look for an Independent who will do Ducati but It still will not be cheap there rather time consuming !
If in or near South London this something I / we do

As others have said, belts, oil and filter before anything else. Belts aren't hard and the Ducati forums (Ducati Up North has a lot of technical resourwill link you to some fairly cheap sources. The carbs are straightforward Mikuni CVs - easy enough to service.
Do check the connectors associated with the alternator and reg/rec for corrosion and cast an eye over any other electrical bits and pieces.
Service kits for Brembo calipers can be tricky to find but they're out there. Sources listed on UKMOC and other forums. |

the belts are pretty easy to change,
belt covers off, (which is the hardest part of the job)
mark old belts for reference, loosen tensioners
remove belts,
mark new belts with marks transfered from old belt
line up new belts,
retension tensioners, and covers back on,
may be a 2 hour job if you havn't done it before,
oil change is a easy as any other bike
carbs pulled off and cleaned is also easy as pie, far easier than some 4 cylinder bikes
a greese here and there, valve adjustment is also pretty easy, but being a desmo motor, you have to do it twice per valve
all stuff you can do at home ____________________ the humans are dead
