Hi guys and girls,

Just a quick questions about my rear tyre . Basically on the way to work some bint pulled out in front of me last minute causing me to do an emergency stop from 70mph to 20mph on a dual carriage way to which I had to swerve on to the hard shoulder ( if you call it that) . Anyways after that little drama I arrived at work and on my lunch I saw my tyre has tears in it. So rang kawasaki to get some new tyres booked in the following morning. So on the way back home I get pulled over by the police who spotted the tears . I explained to them what happened and that the bike has been booked in for tyres both front and rear to be replaced. Regardless of that they gave me a prohibition of my bike whi h I was unable to use til I got the tyres replaced and a FULL MOT redone and said that my tyres were dangerously torn... So following day got all that criteria met got the prohibition notice removed from there system. Received a letter today about my tyre saying either accept 3 points and 100 pound fine or go to court.

Im a bit annoyed given the circumstances and unsure what I should do? Accept the fine and points or go to court?

Ill post the tyre and you give me your knowledgeable thoughts on the tyre and advice on what I should do?

Take it to court, that damage could easily be caused by heavy breaking over crap surface etc

You done what you where asked too, repaired the next day and proved etc. I'd say you have reasonable grounds to argue the points

Or if the points don't bother you just take them, saves agro

The tyre is worn out. Heavy braking didn't cause that.

Take the fine. You've neglected those tyres for a long while, by the looks of it.

You got the prohibition notice because the tyre had no tread and was likely showing cords etc.

This had nothing to do with braking from 70 mph. It has everything to do with you not maintaining your vehical.

Edit: And that's the rear and you are blaming this on excessive braking from 70 down to 20 in one hit?

You do know that, as soon as you use the front brake, all the weight lifts off the rear and so the chances of it doing anything other than flatspotting is negligable. You just wore out this tyre and then have butt-hurt because you got caught.

When I did E brake there was crazy on the hard shoulder also these tears are not all the way round the tyre just on the bit shown. The back wheel did lock up to which I had to release and reapply

So? There's no tread in the middle. You're meant to have at least 1 mm left on it for it to be road legal - that's clearly not.

Don't listen to these twats, that tyre is pretty much perfect and should have at least 4,000 miles of life left on it.

Did you call the copper who pulled you a cunt?

Accept the fine, be grateful for it, and learn to maintain your vehicle.

Whatever the reasons which maybe valid those tyres are illegal and you were using the bike..

Happened to me in my car years ago i was going to the local tyre fitters 5 mins away from work who my boss had booked for me was heading there and was like 2 mins away when i got pulled, i explained and they said i should have taken the wheels off (2) and taken them there !!

They also said i can take a ticket for 1 tyre or go to court for 2 tyres Shocked b'stards

Although good news i received a letter later saying they had made a mistake with the ticket and there would be no further action Thumbs Up

That's what tyres do just before they expose the threads underneath. They're way past done.

Mrs F's rear diablo did exactly that when it was worn out.

I'm just asking advice that's all.

I accept that if I make a mistake I'll admit to it and won't try and weasel out as there no point. I only use my bike to get to and from work so didn't realise as I finish late at night

A tyre doesn't get that bad in a week. I do 200 miles a week and kill a rear in 6 months.

I remember when Cansa posted a tyre like that, he called it power tears, we called it bald. He doesn't mention it anymore.

That tyre is bald, it was over inflated. Deal with it.

Now learn to adjust the tyre pressure for your weight.

Look in manual or on michelin website https://moto.michelin.co.uk/
Use the minimum stated figure as you're light.

I looked at that and thought it looked fine in terms of tread.

Although until 2 days ago I had been riding around on this with little worry myself, cords had been showing for weeks. Laughing

I can safely say I got the most out of it.
