Any recommendations south west of the town? Kind of between Koblenz, Trier and Bad Kreuznach triangle. Somewhere that will have B&B's if the weather is crap. Its only for one night as passing through but may pop back on the way back north if nice.

Cheers

Loads of cheap B&B on the fantastic Koblenz to Trier road. For many years stayed in a lovely place in Alf, along side the Mossel, garage parking, great breakfast.
No need to book anywhere, especialy now with the financial situation, there will be plenty of spare rooms.
Good luck.

We stay at the Alter-Posthof B&B in Halsenbach which is just off the E31 when we are heading to/from Austria.

The rooms are clean although always seem to be being modernised, but the evening meals are absolutely brilliant, and well priced too.

All the staff speak perfect English, which always helps.

We've stayed there 10 times now, and will be there in Feb on the way to the annual ski trip too.

It's up on the hills so there is some great twisty roads down to Sankt Goar if you fancy a wonder by the river Thumbs Up

Street view not working but that looks/sounds ideal. That night is the wife's birthday so I had better not camp.

Errrr Naw, that sounds bogging. Smile I just fired of an e mail on the price for a night as I cant read German and it looks like €99 each what would be a tad steep.

Yeah I sussed that part out for some winter dates. I will be the 29th September and I am sure the Germans have a School Holliday at the start of October so the prices may still be on the summer tariff. High.

That other place that FergieinFrance mentions (Alf) does look a nice area but its almost an hour away from my road south so almost an hour back again.

Glad you're sorted.....

However, if you get any chance to ride the route Trier - Koblenz, then take it...it runs along side the Mossel river and was undoubtedly designed by a biker, sweeping curves at the bottom of the valley, surrounded by grape vines up on the hills,...spectacular.
Cochem is a lovely place to stop, has an old castle and plenty of restaurants / cafes / bars. From Cochem you're only half an hour from the Nurburgring....open most days to have a ride around it....exciting to say the least

Have a good trip... Very Happy

Cheers, now I am confused with where to go now Sad Plan was to spend three days down that area as the wife has never been apart from a school trip what was yeeeeeeeears ago Smile I was Ijmuiden down to mentioned hotel. then down to Lorrach passing Tadtnau for the rollercoaster. Next day was Lake Titissee for lunch and up to visit the large cuckoo clock and head for Luxembourg for the night and cheap tobacco before heading back to Holland for four days.

Down side to any of this I will be in the car but looking to go back next year with the bike. I was thinking as to take the 500 road as its ment to be a good bike road bit that Koblenz to Trier road looks good also. I take it you guys are talking about the 49/ 416 road. Chain Driven, what is in Cochem? as nothing is set in stone apart from being in Luxembourg on the third day.

You are a crap tourist guide Very Happy

OK, Change of plan as the area does look nice. So its night one in mentioned hotel then down to Cochem next day as I fancy the castle and the wife wants to go up that chair lift. Apparently there is a small zoo up the top. If its nice we will stay and extra night and get the train to Koblenz for the day. If dull then down to Trier for the night and on to Luxemburg for out bounty. Then up to Holland for the bike rally. Going to leave the Black forest until next year and take the bike.

BTW Chain Driven. Booking this hotel

https://www.weinhaus-graefen.de/english.html

€66 for the night and almost in the middle of town by the looks of things. If you do go back look at the trip advisor web site as you can get good accommodation deals booking in advanced.

That was a cracking wee hotel James cheers. Ended up paying €60 but we got the family room what had a bed that was longer than me and I am 6'2" The steaks and five drinks for the wife any myself was about another €50 what was also good I thought so that place is bookmarked for next year when we go back with the bike.

Trier was a dump. Never again however we are going back as Cochem was ace and I was hung over and fallowed my quickest route sat nav what took me up the motorway. Twat me was in a day dream and forgot to just keep following the river, still seen half of it. Staying for two nights in Cochem next year as to much to see and Murphys bar needs more beer sampling. Had an ace time and also lucky with the weather.

If only I was on the bike. Still, next year.

By the time I got there and hotel organised there was time for lunch and a bit of sight seeing. I went up the cable car but fancy the castle and a boat trip. The road up the top (K18) looks like fun also. Need to do that without the wife Wink Ill post a few pics from the area when the guy in the Irish bar send me my camera. Guess who was pish faced and left it on the bar Embarassed

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself.

Och sod that road. It looks shit. I do have picture of Cochem at height but I had to pay €6 on a chair lift to get them and then get stung another €5.50 at the top for a beer.

My only picture just now until my camera arrives is the train station as I bought a camera from a shop up the road.

Yes and yes. Hotel is basic as in MFI type furniture but its clean and friendly. I did not eat there but it also has a good looking restaurant. Breakfast was nice with the usual continental stuff with the choice of boiled or scrambled egg. The rooms are all tiled like you would find in Greece or the likes but I will book again for next year. 5 minutes walk to the river front and many a choice from eateries. Cochem also has two Irish bars. One on the river front what is part of a chain and run by a German the other what is a few doors down from the hotel is a proper Irish pub and run by an Irishman. Live music most nights and cheap beer prices.
