We stay at the Alter-Posthof B&B in Halsenbach which is just off the E31 when we are heading to/from Austria.
The rooms are clean although always seem to be being modernised, but the evening meals are absolutely brilliant, and well priced too.
All the staff speak perfect English, which always helps.
We've stayed there 10 times now, and will be there in Feb on the way to the annual ski trip too.
It's up on the hills so there is some great twisty roads down to Sankt Goar if you fancy a wonder by the river |

Cheers, now I am confused with where to go now Plan was to spend three days down that area as the wife has never been apart from a school trip what was yeeeeeeeears ago I was Ijmuiden down to mentioned hotel. then down to Lorrach passing Tadtnau for the rollercoaster. Next day was Lake Titissee for lunch and up to visit the large cuckoo clock and head for Luxembourg for the night and cheap tobacco before heading back to Holland for four days.
Down side to any of this I will be in the car but looking to go back next year with the bike. I was thinking as to take the 500 road as its ment to be a good bike road bit that Koblenz to Trier road looks good also. I take it you guys are talking about the 49/ 416 road. Chain Driven, what is in Cochem? as nothing is set in stone apart from being in Luxembourg on the third day. |

That was a cracking wee hotel James cheers. Ended up paying €60 but we got the family room what had a bed that was longer than me and I am 6'2" The steaks and five drinks for the wife any myself was about another €50 what was also good I thought so that place is bookmarked for next year when we go back with the bike. |

Glad you enjoyed it, we are off there in Feb on the outbound and return legs of our ski trip and we are always pleased with the rooms, service and food |

Och sod that road. It looks shit. I do have picture of Cochem at height but I had to pay €6 on a chair lift to get them and then get stung another €5.50 at the top for a beer.
My only picture just now until my camera arrives is the train station as I bought a camera from a shop up the road.
