What would you consider acceptable delivery mileage on a new bike? Was told the bike was new and been sat in the showroom, saw it first time today and it had a bit of a dirty seat ,although everything else looked new, tyres etc should i ask for a new seat? thanks.

Did you give it a good sniff to see if it was delivery soil?

Delivery miles I'd be expecting less than 10 otherwise I'd suspect that it'd be test ridden or used by the sales men.

Cheers Guys ,
I will check with the dealer tomorrow, it did look new other than the seat which looked a bit dirty. I will reject the bike if it doesn't have delivery miles and a new seat.

Fair enough. I'd imagine the seat will just be given a wipe over. Any bike sat in a showroom may have had a few bums on it.

A new bike is different to a display bike.

Unless it is fresh out of the crate with less than 10miles on the clock I would be asking for a tidy discount.

Is this the WR125X?

I'd want a £4200 learner bike to be absolutely mint, no dissembling or excuses. If they don't want that obscene amount of money, plenty of other dealers will be delighted to take it.

And I've just noticed that you "had a Aprilia RS125 many years ago". Eh?

So this is your last chance to come to your senses, walk away, get a license and buy something that offers much better value for money.

If the seat is scratched or frayed then yes, you demand a new seat, even if the damage is small. New is new.

On the other hand, if the seat can be fully sorted and brought back to as-new condition with a simple clean, then you're just a dick if you attempt to demand a new seat.

My Trophy was an ex demonstrator but they (Pure Triumph) replaced the rear seat as it had scuffs. I didn't ask as I bought it as seen but they said as it was a heated seat they would fit a new one. Thumbs Up

My Explorer (Brand new) had 5 miles on the clock when I picked it up.

(Based on rogerborgs post being accurate)

Gosh darn it! Don't buy a brand new 125! Massive waste of money, you will get bored of that bike within a month. Although that is not from experience, as soon as I turned 17 I did my test and went from my 50cc to my GSXR 400. Very Happy

I do understand that you cannot get a 'bigger bike' until you are 19 now. But you will be much better off getting a second hand 125 that you don't care as much about and can there for, have more fun on.

*Edit: going by other posts it seems you are over 19 already?*

(Unless you're getting it on a 0% apr finance arrangement and don't have the outright cash to buy second hand, then I kind of get why you would buy new)

<Paddington Bear very hard stare>

That's the last bike he posted about. But then he also said that his budget was £700 - £2000 so it does seem likely that it's rented financed. Sad

If nobody buys a brand new 125 then the market will dry up very quickly.

Hurrah for new bike buyers. Thumbs Up

My river of tears at the loss of £4200 125s bikes will rehydrate it. The world's smallest violin player, just for you!

You're buying a brand new 125CC? Please don't.

It'll do what? 60MPH maxed out. £500 to nail your tests and get a 400CC, leaves £1,500 from your £2,000. Buy a nice 400CC something like a GSXR or a DRZ if you like supermotos and profit. Thumbs Up

No finance, no worrying about paying for the bike every month and no worrying about dropping it or putting a scratch on it here or there.

I have a 1997 DT, I couldn't care less if I threw it down the road tomorrow. Laughing

Everyone on here telling you not to buy a new 125CC is good advice. Advising you to NOT make a mistake. Trust me, you will be bored of that 125CC within a week or two. I can barely do overtakes on NSL's on my DT and that's a 2 smoker and probably faster than a WR.
