I'm considering buying a bike to add to my already too full garage. It need not be practical, just fun!
So far my ideas are
A, Ducati 851 / 888 or a 900 Superlight.
B. Suzuki rgv250 / Honda Nsr250
C. A super moto - not sure which.
D. Early Fireblade. (Preferably the original one).
E. BMW k1. (I've always liked them - sorry!)

It's not going to get much use, but will always be taxed, MOT'd and insured ready to go, and won't live under a dust sheet hoping the value will rise. Logic says either the early Ducati 851 / 888 / SL or 250 2 stroke would be the best bet as I don't really have anything similar at present?

Ha, a good point. I do fancy the Ducati or 250 stroker as my first choice. I'd actually want the 500 2 stroke but they're a bit expensive and out of my budget!

Depending on circumstances, between 3000 and maybe £5500.

Erm, truth be told I'd not go for any if those. Is your short list extendable?

Very Happy

Jesus! Can we take bets on what expire first, my life or my licence????
I'm also considering just throwing some money at my Monster, converting it into the back road weapon I know it could be. However, that could be a big job too...

There are a few nice examples on AutoTrader at the moment. One of the new shape examples looks like a steal.

Sensible me should buy an old Pan Euro as I think I'm going to be commuting from the Mid Wales / Shropshire border to past Glasgow. However I've just got the urge to buy something silly AND I've got a new mot, service and tyres on the zzr so hope to smash some miles on that...

K1 will commute almost as well as a paneuro. Sensible underneath while looking outrageous.

K100 engine is good for about a billion miles

For a toy - road legal 250cc motocross bike with SM wheels.

All the revvy fun of a 250cc smoker sports bike without the silly cost they attract these days.
Decent suspension, very light weight and speeds that keep your licence.

Yep, looks like a very interesting proposition Smile.

Not sure if WR means enduro or mx in Husky world.
Enduro 250s tend to be a very flat 4 stroke like power delivery, while the motocross bikes tend to be more lairy.

A, B, Or E would be my choice.

The early blades are hard to find in good enough condition, and for them to be worth a bit, you want them un-restored IMO. The early 98 R1 is probably a better bet these days for the same reasons.

The Ducati 900SL sounds interesting and rare, not sure how easy it would be to live with or work on though!

A 1990's 2stroke 250cc sportsbike is a great off the wall idea, for something very different, but as G said the values for tidy bikes have gone stupid and like the 500cc's they are not worth paying for just a sunny day ride, that could be better spent elsewhere. I think 125cc sportsbike strokers are the only exciting VFM ones left to pursue for most people on a realistic budget now, and the off road 90's MX and enduro stuff.

The K1 BMW is a rare beast to see, and despite it being a huge long beast and not that sporty, it would be a great novelty bike, and you could bet that pulling up at a sunday meet yours is likely to be the only one there. A better bike than a Yamaha GTS1000, more unusual than a Pan, and the closest thing to it to compare I would say in terms of size, riding position and long legged feel, would be a Triumph Daytona 1200?

That's the one I would be tucking away for high days and holidays, except I'd probably get it out for a blast more often than that Twisted Evil
