I'm not talking about the cost of purchase, but the cost of maintenance/modifications, because as of tomorrow I will have spent around about £800 over the course of 9 months or so on a bike that originally cost me £2000.

So, I'm just wondering if I'm the only one that's mug enough to keep shelling out the way I do, or if this is something that affects bike riders in general?

So, what's the most you've spent on a bike?

...get this horrible feeling you're all gonna point and laugh. Confused

Thanks to all that reply. Thumbs Up

Rebore and replate every 5000miles, at £250 a time. NEVER add up all what you've spent on bikes, it will just depress you.

Less depressing than adding up all of what you've spent on alcohol though, especially for what you get out of it! Laughing

Nothing wrong with a decent traditional ale, Grolsch or Guiness. However, with beer and catered hall fried breakfasts, in the first term of my first year I put on almost a stone and spent (wasted) the best part of £500 in about eleven weeks Shocked . Whistle Drinking got a bit boring after a while, seeing as I was perpetually skint. Then I got my bike and probably have spent somewhere in the region of 2 grand in less than a year.

The worst thing is, it's almost all borrowed money. Sad I've got 12 grand of (enforced) debt and I'm only 21... Rolling Eyes

Bike - £500
Refit of clutch parts after 1 day - £380
New battery after 1 week, after finding out current one wouldn't take a charge - £70

Miles ridden before first repairs - 0.5 miles.

I think it needs new brake pads, so the cost of that (Still haven't gotten around to checking them)

If it had been a stranger, I would have gone round there and demanded my money back (And parked the bike through his front window if he hadn't given it to me). But it was my Dad's next door neighbour who sold it to us, so "I cannot be nasty to him cause he is a nice man". Yer, nice enough to sell me a fucking lemon...

On my NRG - it cost me 1500 to buy. Over the years

Servicing - 600 quid for 5 services
Battery - 20 quid + labour
Rear shock - 60 quid + labour
Rear tyre after 9000 miles = 79 quid
Mirrors x 4 = 60 quid ( yeah, i used to crash a lot and naturally, the protruding mirrors acted as crash mushrooms Rolling Eyes , so now in my garage, i have 3 pairs of broken NRG mirrors - one of which has its stem fractured into 2 pieces)
Bulbs and electrics - 80 quid - Piaggio electrics are known to go duff after a couple of years and needs constant attention - my bike also had an immobiliser so charge used to drain.

All in all, i can clearly say that i've spent almost half the purchase price of the what i can only say as being the most fun bike i've had in quite a while - 600 over 14 months on a STANDARD may i say, 50 cc seems pretty steep Wink ( i be no rcr wid dem gianelli tings bolted to me 3ngine!)

If you are including accident repairs, £752 to put my XJ900F back on the road after bouncing the crankcase off a kerb (with my left foot in between) whilst playing silly buggers.

Why'd you make me think about how much I spent (wasted) on my TL1000R? Razz

Let's see, bought £3800
Tax: £60
Crash mushrooms £50
Fork seals: £70 (2hrs labour + labours)
Exhausts: £500
Engine repair: £1600
Total: £6080

Sold it for £3750

Cost of £2230. Neutral

And for that cost I did fuck all miles on it cos the gearbox died shortly after I bought it. Neutral

My most expensive add-on was probably a £25 sports exhaust off ebay.

I win for the biggest cheapskate/ratbike owner.

Hi

Excluding buying a bike it would be having the work done on the Bandit. Time to depress myself:-

Engine tune = £1300
Exhaust = £725
K&N filter = £35
Dynojet kit = £125
Full Barnet clutch kit = £200
Dyno set up = £200
Oil cooler = £220

That comes to about £2800, and I think there is a bit more spent elsewhere (such as £200 on some CNC machined engine covers that I have not fitted). About £50 per hp.

All the best

Keith

Guess you're lucky the Bandit 1200 is the cheapest bike for hp/£ in the first place.

And I guess the other Bandits can't be far off.

Spent maybe a few hundred on the AR. Havn't really thought about it but some stuff:

3 tyres £25 a pop, 75 quid
sprockets and chain, about 40 i think
gave a friend of a friend £20 for spraying and filling in the cracks on a few bits of bodywork
upgraded tail lights about 15 quid
micro indicators 15 quid
5x7 number plate 16 quid
tax £15
most engine work is free or parts only as my dad is a mechanic.

Ste how come you didn't just keep the TL until your well enough to ride again?

Because it's not going to be any time soon, sold it back in July and it's still going to be at least another 12 months until I get my license back and I wouldn't get straight back onto a TL anyway.

At least then you could have been tarting it up that time and keeping it running etc. Seems a shame to have gotten rid of it like that.

Not much left that could be changed on it, webpage made by last owner when he was selling it.
Would also seem a shame to have it sat for at least a year and a half anyway.
