What bike is it?
How old is it?
How 'cheap' is it?
SOMETIMES, exhaust studs shear; you get the pipe off, then can get mile grips in on the remaining shank, to wind out the stubb..
Most times?
You end up with snapped cooling fins; holes in shanks, filled with broken hardened steel EZ-Out, chewed up metal galore, burned fingers, and resort to taking the head off, taking it to a reconditioners, and getting it machined, and helicoiled... and it might be back on the road for Summer 2016.
They can, in short be a bitch.
and I wouldn't take the lack of fix by the dealer to mean he's 'sharp'... but its a problem he probably knows only too well, is better left to some-one more nieve, foollish and optimistic...
Do you want a bike to ride, or do you want a bike to fix?
If former... buy one that dont need 'fixing'. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Exhaust studs aren't always a pain to get out...it depends how accessible they are and how much of the stud is left protruding. Just did three on my bike and, once I bought the right tool, they all came out quite easily.
Sometimes, things like this can be good for the buyer - other buyers are put off and the seller eventually drops the price. Tell the owner that you've spoken to a mechanic and he says that the head may need to come off to fix the stud and it could cost up to £400
If local, get a good close up pic of the offending stud and post it on here, you're not far from me and I could remove the stud for a packet of fags ____________________ Space Is Deep |

The buyer can factor in things like new chain and sprockets, filters, tyres etc......and I personally don't mind paying a bit more if these things are new...but, sadly for the seller, they have little effect on book price.
i think they're a lot of bike for these sort of prices...down to the age I guess. 'Strange there are so many low mileage Hornets about, 20 to 30k miles for a 15 year old bike seems quite low to me ____________________ Space Is Deep |
