Hiya guys,
So about 2 + 1/2 YEARS ago i sold my bike, delivered it to the guy. Filled in the V5 and posted it.
About 6 months later, i hadnt had a reply, so i phoned DVLA to tell them. They informed me i had to send in writing to change details. Printed letter sent off.
Fast forward to this year, and last month i recieve a letter stating i have an £80 fine for not taxing it. It also says that i am still liable even if the vehicle was transferred as I havent notified them. I have just ignored this letter as quite honestly, i cant be bothered dealing with them any more. I checked online though and the bike is insured, so surely they will catch upto him eventually?
What should i actually do about this? I have sent them the v5 + a letter, and told the person on the phone.
Thanks

Firstly it's not a fine, it's a "pay us some money and it'll go away"

I'm sure you distinctly remember putting a first class stamp on the V5 and walking to the post box by the super market to post it as your mum asked you to pick up some eggs on your travels.

you also remember phoning up and posting a second letter.

The Department of Various Lost Articles like to think failure for themselves to do anything with your paperwork is your problem but it really isn't.

wait for Rogerborg to show up, follow advice
If you're feeling a bit devil may care then follow Paddy's advice.

And this is why they are still doing it, and getting away it.

Good work.

I thought you got given an official form when scrapping a vehicle?
Would you not also get a letter back from the DVLA receiving confirmation after it was initially crushed? (I would assume)
If that was me I would keep that form until the day I die, don't trust those fuckers Sad

Yeah, only problem is I cannot be bothered with the hassle of going to court to sort it all out etc unlike most of the Internet heros on here

yes I did receive a form but I have moved house 4 times in the last 18 months so god knows where it is Laughing

As I said previously, would rather not have the hassle once it's gone that far

I know everyone on here is all for going to court every 5 minutes and arguing the toss with everything, but it's just not worth the agro for things like this

would cost me more in fuel and lost wages than the fine is anyway so it's lose lose

I'm not trying to provoke anything here but... now you've paid the fine for not taxing it, will they send you another fine in 12 months?

Did you receive last year's tax reminder, then?
