I really dont see the point of derestricting it to be honest. My view is that if you want to go faster, get a bigger bike or at least pass your test first. I think they are restricted for a reason and if someone moves to a d restricted rs125 from a 50cc ped (5bhp - 30bhp) then i really dont think it is a good idea, when you have only had about 3 or 4 hours of lessons.
If i want 33bhp il go and buy a 250 or restricted 400 or something after taking lessons so that its safe for me to ride it ____________________ DNA50 (sorry) ->> TZR125l >> GPZ500S |

I rode a derestricted RS125 around for about 17months on a CBT (It took a month to run it in and get it derestricted ) I lived, Actually I never crashed it once (Excluding dropping it at a standstill a few times )
I agree that some people shouldnt be trusted with a 14BHP bike let alone a 30ish BHP bike. ____________________ My bikes are at https://www.bikepics.com/members/dynamight/ |

my NSR125R was de-restristed
de-restricting a bike does not affect the engine life, after all they were desgined to work full power. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

I'm on an RS125 at the moment. Needless to say, its full power and has been from day one. Only thing is, the bike had a problem with one of the gaskets and it was sucking some random liquid into the cylinder when I bought it. Wouldnt rev over 8000rpm so you could say it was restricted for about 3 days. Went back to dealership for repairs and such a difference!
Every road legal bike I've had since being 16 has been de-restricted and not had any problems. I've passed my test anyway so it doesnt make a difference anymore. ____________________ Aprilia RSV Mille R Edwards Replica - Aprilia RS250 - Suzuki GSXR600 Supersport Race Bike |

my bike would have been restricted-if it had any power in the first place! i think its meant to have 12bhp at the crank, so ive been unrestricted all my life! ____________________ Now own a Fireblade!! Speed Limits? Bah! |

I have never owned a 125 so the answer should really be no.
However, my ZZR1200 is restricted, all be it to 186Mph (300Kmh) ____________________ I spend all my money on bikes and beer, the rest I simply waste! |

NSR125 was restricted for about a month.
ZX6R was never 33bhp
TL1000R was 33bhp for the ride home from when I had it restricted.
Of course all this is purely what I would like to have done, not what I did do, officer. |

My VFR is full power (65bhp ish so i hear) i'm on a restricted 33bhp licence yes, but its been full power from day one, and i'mnot paying £150 for 4 washers to restrict it, i'm too used to the power anyway, i couldn't halve the power

It will reduce engine life mate They were designed to work at full power yes, that's why the manuals suggest a ring change at 8k etc. Keeping it restricted reduces the amount of stress on engine components, and the fact that they will not be revved as high as a de-restricted one.

I don't think i could ride a restricted bike for long without getting bored, my rs50 puts out about 6hp stock (de-res) this weekend im fitting a 21mm carb, big-bore, mk clutch and it already has a mk exhaust, im hoping for about 12~14hp after all this, and i'm still 16. When i turn 17 i want a 400, but only if i can afford one. If not i'll be getting a rs125, which will be de-restricted asap. If i get the 400, then no doubt i will de-resrict that after a month or so. Everyone is different, i like speed, you obviously are not too bothered about it.
What would be the point of getting a bigger bike to go faster, if you can just de-restrict your original one and practically double the hp for pennies?!?!!?!
Also, some people have passed their test and ride their full power 125's simply because they cannot afford a bigger bike yet. |

Have you ridden a derestricted bike?
I have seen other people that have had exactly the same opinion of you; until they have tasted the greener grass on the other side .
In my opinion, the lessons don't help you handle the power. They don't make you a significantly safer rider either.
Both of those things have to come from yourself wanting to do them. |

My NSR was definately de-restricted, though of course I didn't know a thing about that!
If I had realised it was illegal, I would have taken it to a garage straight away...
When I had my first CBR400, I did ring around to get quotes for restrictiom, mostly to keep my mother happy. Everyone I spoke to said it would kill the bike, and that they wouldn't guarentee the working order of the engine after it had been restricted. Plus it cost a fortune.
So, when my 33bhp restriction ended last summer, dad and I hunted for the restrictors to remove them, but it appeared that my second CBR wasn't restricted either. Naughty me! ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

as of some date, i dont know when, the age for riding various bikes will change to fit in with EU laws:
125cc bike at 16
Pass your test at 18
Have full unrestricted licence (no 33bhp) is 21
it was in MCN or somewhere a few months ago
Did i get that correct? ____________________ DNA50 (sorry) ->> TZR125l >> GPZ500S |
