I'm finding it really hard to change gear, well much harder than it should be, and today I managed to change from 4th to Neutral at 50mph which wasn't much fun.

It feels like, imagine there's a point at the top of the lever's movement, where it'll clunk into the next gear. It feels like most of the time, recently, I've been struggling to reach that point, like the gear lever is -just- before the point and won't physically move any higher. Sometimes if I wiggle my foot while pulling up I can get there, but by then I've lost any forward momentum while my engine has been disengaged.

A lot of the time if I change gear up and don't wiggle, I just let release the clutch, move foot back down and pull on the throttle again (all at once) like a normal gear change, it will do.... hard to explain... I'll move half a gear up, and then I get it dropping back down a gear again with the sudden jump in revs.

All this behaviour happens mostly when I'm at a higher revs - accelerating from a 30 into a national speed limit section, for instance.

Can anyone shed some insight? Thanks.

Adjust your gear selector. Did you know you can do this? Set it lower slightly and it should sort your problems.

And check your clutch is adjusted properly.

Check your chain isn't too tight/slack. CBR125 gearboxes can be very sensitive to it and i've had a few false neutrals caused by it. Also i don't think the selector can be adjusted

Ive had this too on my '07 CBR125. From 5th, I cant get it down to 4th and below if I brake hard beforehand. It can be a pain but i find gently letting the clutch in and out to the biting point while trying to shift up or down. Seems to just pop into the gear you want.

Ive had new tyres recently so I doubt its my chain. Ill take it to my local shop and see what they say Smile

Yeah sometimes I get this with changing my gear downwards, if I'm braking, changing down feels spongy, like there's no feedback. My gears will change down with the occasional false neutral (maybe once a fortnight?) but there's rarely a satisfying clunk.
